Hi all!
I’m looking at buying a laptop for doing web development on, so I don’t have to sit at my desk all the time! I have a budget of £500, any suggestions?
Thanks
Anything! I’ve got a 27” iMac and it’s major overkill for web development
Next time I’m due a change I’m getting a super slim laptop (cough cough MacBook Air cough) and a nice monitor instead!
Basically all we need is something powerful enough to run a bit of photoshop, and then it’s basically just a text editor. ugh.
Well I plan to buy windows 8 pro on surface for on the go web design

maybe look at ebay and try and get a MBP or an AIR , solid machines.
I do like the Macbooks, but they’re a bit expensive!
The surface looks great, but I think I’d rather go for an actual laptop. A tablet is next in line
What do you think of the Acer Aspire V3-771? It seems like quite a lot of laptop for the money to me, and a 17.3” HD screen is quite appealing! Also, it’s younger brother – the Acer Aspire V3-731 – is £100 cheaper, and seems to be pretty much the same but has a B960 2 .2GHz CPU instead of an i5, do you think the i5 upgrade is worth £100?
I was always told – “buy cheap, buy twice” the good thing about Macs is the resale value is great.
Although I used to have an Acer, and it was great for the money, just a really fast laptop, the downside was the construction was a little flimsy, but if you can live with that then I’m sure it’ll keep you happy
That’s usually true, but then you could argue that £500 isn’t cheap
I have an acer at the moment, and I’m pretty sure I’ve had it for at least 3 years now! It still runs quite well, but the battery life is awful and I like the idea of a shiny new laptop

I’m using a Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition and I’m glad with it. It costed me 800 euros.

i’ve heard toshiba is good, avoid the lower end dell unless you want to replace all the ram etc…
TBH £500 isn’t an expensive laptop but I guess for web dev you don’t need tons or ram of graphics etc… if you can find an apple go for it else toshiba IMO
good luck

Well with windows 8 pro, it will have the actual windows 8 not the rt version plus with the type pad thing it does become a proper laptop
