I’m trying to find the best way to inform buyers about file updates.

Now I see following ways:
  • Add changelog section to file description page
  • Put on preview image version number
  • Tweet about update
  • Add comment about update on your file page.
How do you inform buyers about new update?

I pretty much do everything you’ve listed. Not sure there is anything else you can do. Maybe a blog post on your personal website? Although I do usually post on Tumblr as well about the update and list what has been added.

And I know it’s been a long time coming, but we’ll totally build it in to the marketplaces soon. It’s in the pipeline!

Not sure how you’re planning to implement it, but can you make it so that the author has control of when to ‘announce’ an update. I sometimes make small changes to bugs I or customers have noticed. But I don’t want to email/notify all customers each time, only when there are feature updates.

Yep, there used to be such a feature on deviantArt (not sure if it still exists) – when you updated your artwork, you could check “This is a major update (your watchers will be notified)”.
