Just finished up a rather standard “epic battle” type orchestration—my first one. I’m kinda new to this, so any input would be appreciated.https://soundcloud.com/auralaxiom/of-glory-and-darkness

Sounds good, seems on the way to being a really good track. I think the drum hits at 1.26 could be better. I think the section that starts at 1.40 could be improved. It stops in a jarring way at 2.09.
Sounds good, but…
at 0.30 – epic rising before and nothing epic after Think it would be rather good if at 0.31 put some kind of “boom” hit or simply move reversed cymbal sound to 0.31 (and it would be better if reversed cymbal will not have cutted tail).
Percussion section is thin a little. For example, adding of timpani’s part (or something more epic and massive like a “Studio Armageddon Ens” from the “Heavyocity Damage”) could fix this problem I think.
Part after 0.50 (to 1.40) is awesome.
Choir’s staccato after 1.40 is too synthetic in my opinion.
But anyway, on the whole track sounds quite nice
Good ideas! As for the choir, not much I can do about that; it’s just the patch (EW Symphonic Choirs—a bit dated).
I wasn’t able to do much for the stops, which are fairly common in modern orchestration. I like them, and so does the client.
All the other suggestions were gtg I think. What’s your thought on the…surprise I added at the end?
