hi – seems like there’s a flood of new files lately, this summer, with a ton of new authors onboard… how are you elite/oldtimers handling it? seems tough to sell in this type of format, with front page exposure less than a couple days or less, compared to last year or year before.

I’m actually seeing a lot less files being produced by “oldtimer” authors such as NickolasM, UniqueFX, Generator, PlacenCVetanov, etc. I suppose it’s because they’re already making good money without having to upload tons of new items, or maybe it’s because they know summer isn’t the best time to be selling…

I must admit it’s very hard for me without any suggestions from you buyers. We can produce tons of After Effects Templates,Stock video, Motion graphics etc… but sales are too low these days and it’s just waste of time without any suggestions. It would be great if we can have something like “Most wanted projects” just to know what to produce…

The “Most wanted projects” thing is a good idea.

Self promotion is the key for me.I haven’t published anything new for a while, but i work on getting exposure for the old items all the time.

Also i think us “older” authors we’re lucky to be here early on to establish our place in the marketplace which is A LOT harder these days. The front page is flooded with new files from new authors and maybe that’s intimidating / confusing for buyers,so they go back to the “oldie” author who has proved himself to them earlier.

Maybe you can comment on this Ken?

See all those new files ? And now look at the old ones. Now look at them closely… more close… just a little bit more.. and now produce something aaabsolutely different. Thats how I do it.

I would love for envato to do some sort of survey so we can have an idea of what buyers want.

I’m not.

Videohive needs to raise its price ceiling, because the quality race has stopped. Given the quality that already exists, there’s no point pushing it further unless the price ceiling goes up. This is a no-brainer if you ask me.

Even with 200 sales, some ideas are just too time-consuming to realize. Given that 200 sales is way above the mean sales for a file, ideas that are going to push the envelope are pretty much a guaranteed loss maker.
