Hi guys, i am curious to know these days professionals what technology prefer/use to make animations.
Is flash still live and a best choice for making animation rather in html5?
Traditionally Flash. But it is going to die in 1-2 year and html5 is coming its place. And you know for running in all platforms (android, ios etc.) html5 will be a better choice..
There are still plenty of professional animators who’re making a lot of cartoons with Flash 8. Just take a look on Newgrounds and even on YouTube.
If you’re referring to simple transitions, well then HTML5 is the way to go.
What do you use the animation for? Graphics for websites?
Adobe has already stepped away from it’s flash platform. Not sure you are already aware but not only did adobe abandon developing Flash for mobile devices, their flash based flex framework has also been donated to the Apache foundation ^^
When you see signs like this, it only means that it’s time to move on to greener pastures and minimize your damages.
Adobe themselves are telling you that the future is html5 and not flash. These are declarations they’ve made a while back. We’re already in the future so if I were you, I wouldn’t hold my breath about flash ever making a comeback. Silverlight followed the same fate.
For the record, html5 is quite capable and a lot of good games are already written in it. Unless you plan on supporting old browsers, imho a step back because even jquery is going to stop supporting outdated versions of IE, html5/modern browsers/mobile is where you need to focus
HTML 5 and by using Adobe Edge you can create HTML5 animations easily just like in flash.
Silverlight followed the same fate.
I am no Microsoft hater but this is one reason I am mad at them. Microsoft is trying to do so many stuff that they end up messing things up. I think they should concentrate on their OS mostly and stay away from trying to mimic everything. Seriously, what was the point of SilverLight when we had Java and Flash…
html5/modern browsers/mobile is where you need to focus
I think this is still too much for one person. Full compatibility between browsers and all devices seems like a dream to me. I just don’t believe it will be happening soon so there will always be headaches on developer’s side if he wants good results on all of them. I think one should first pick PC or Mobile. For PCs, I don’t think Flash will die soon. If mobile, then pick Android or Apple and then dive into App Development for that specific choice. HTML5 might be good for simple effects but I really doubt it’s the way to choose for advanced stuff like games, regardless of your aim of PC or Mobile.
