I was curious about how many items where released in the last month and came up with this graphic:

new items / month on themeforest.net
More than double items where published this year comparing to last year!

So what are your thoughts on this new trend?

Thought so, I was going to do the same, how long did it take you to get the results?

The whole progress took about 24 hours but I set the cron to 5min. With 1min you have that in about 6 – 8 hours I guess

This is a bad thing isnt it?

Because it means an item is hidden 5 times quicker, after so many pages people stop searching.

Which means in the long run the sales are going to be effected for authors, Envato will love the stats though.

Quality is unaffected by quantity! :) Release great products, they will sell! :)

Hey revaxarts, thanks for sharing your findings!

Whether a volume increase is a good or bad thing for individual authors depends on many other factors. It’s a good thing overall if:

  • The purchase to release ratio continues to increase (essentially, demand is increasing on pace or faster than product volume).
  • Quality remains high
  • File visibility is well distributed – or perhaps “file accessibility” is a more apt term (I think we’re currently lacking here)

The issue I think we run into is actually finding themes (file visibility/accessibility) when there are so many available. I think the search and possible categorization/tag system need to be revisited to address the hugely increased volume of products available. I know a lot of buyers feel overwhelmed, and we need to have a system in place for putting the right files in front of the right buyers.
