Getting Started Coding for CC

Hi all,

I am a web developer with knowledge in CSS, HTML, Javascript, PHP, Rails, etc.

I am looking to get started writing some outstanding content for Code Canyon and I’m curious how other developers/designers find out which products users really want. I’ve taken a quick look at the “Item Requests” thread, but I see no way to up-vote a request, or anything like that so that developers know what people want the most.

I’m not expecting my first few products to go viral and start paying my income, but it would be nice if I could build something that got more than 5 or 10 sales in the first few months.

Any thoughts/ideas on where to begin?

Look at Popular Files to get an idea about what sells most. Also as far as I see it wordpress plugins are selling quite well.

I usually tend to check what’s missing in the marketplace or what items/category could use some improvements. I also try to think what would I buy and what I’d find usefull for me as a web developer.

My advice for you is that you develop what you want and what you’d like to have, that way even if the sales aren’t that good, you’ll feel good about what you released.

Welcome to CC… you’re going to be addicted soon. Focus on the top selling scripts, but also pay close attention to the quality of the top selling scripts. You may be hard pressed to compete with some of the top selling items in a specific niche. It’s also important to find a nice spin for your item, and brand it well – with a global audience in mind. Finding the best selling items/categories is just the beginning – it’s deciding which one to tackle and how to make it special. Put a crazy spin on it (people love bells and whistles and always will) and make it unique. Best of luck
