I found a font on my HDD , downloaded some time ago, and it fits great for my upcoming theme. Since I haven’t found any licence file with it, I searched on the net to find if the font is free for commercial use or else.
So, I finally find some blog posts with links to this foundry, offering the font for free (one weight, but exactly one I need
) – but this “offer” has ended – meaning font is no longer free. But I have a copy downloaded legally.
So I wanted to be sure I can use it in commercial project, so I send them an email. But almost a week later – no response.
What do you suggest I should do? I probably won’t use it because I don’t want to have legal issues if they “suddenly go mad and request for me to remove my item” or similar
But on the other hand, this font really fits the design
Try to find a similar font, for what you have, and in the documentation file you can recommend your buyers to download and use that font, if is free for personal use, also you can make some screenshots with the respective font on your theme and upload them to screenshots preview, and in the description to say something like this “best visual result with this font …”
It’s not available for the download anymore
Furthermore, I’ve checked foundry’s website and it is not even listed there anymore… dunno if they sold it or something…
Can’t find the similar font – this is the one.
as you have downloaded the font you probably downloaded a whole zip with the font. Isn’t there any license in there? Usually in such a case I would use the font since I have downloaded it legally as it was free to use. Imagine what would they do if you had made your theme some months ago as they still had the download for free? Would they sue you know or taking any legal action?
Please tell me if I’m wrong but I would say: Go for it!
Don’t know about the licence, it seems that I just copied .ttf file into the fonts archive folder (my bad, I know…)
