anyone know how to use a flash navigation in a html content page using AS 2 and without using frames on the html. also without using different swf’s for each page. this can work with using just one flash navigation.

an example of what i mean

www.tide.com

even if you have a direct link on one of the pages of the above mentioned site, the flash menu maintains the over state of that page, and its one menu.

it can be done with actionscript and javascript

will pay reasonably for this. needs to work with most browsers out there and needs to be a clean code.

thanks

It’s been a while but I have done this so I don’t remember exactly how to do it. All I remember is passing a variable telling the flash what page it was on in the html.

I also remember this being a giant pain since the way to put flash in an html page had to change.

That particular site you mentioned just reloads the flash menu again with each page but initializes the slider correctly for the displayed page using a SWFObject variable which varies per page. e.g. the Message Board page contain the line :
so1.addVariable("hotNav", "messageboard" );
in the Flash menu loading section

The menu then correctly sets the orange slider using that variable when it loads.

It doesn’t just keep one instance of the Flash menu running while loading different html pages underneath it, which I’ve only ever achieved using frames or iframes. But then it’s a pain for testing as the frame / iframe navigation method doesn’t seem to work when the the files are run locally. they have to be uploaded to a server.

I am running into a similar problem with my site I am working on I have a flash player embeded in the cart skin code but every time I click on a page It refreshes the flash and the video starts to replay. I dont think frames are a option for me so I dont know how to solve the issue. I thought maybe a pause on the video so its not so anoying and I thought about a silent video that is more like a ad or info about the site. any ideas. thanks guys.
