Fl studio for you music experts!

Hello people

I was wondering for those of you music experts that have used Cubase , Pro tools , Fl Studio etc. is the sound engine of Fl studio different/worse/better?

For example, if one uses a vst such as Philarmonik in Fl studio , would it sound the same in Cubase or Pro tools ?

I know it`s a lot of debate about this and a lot of folks say Fl Studio is for kids and Pro Tools is for masters with no valid arguments.

I just wanted to see other`s opinions!

Fairly simple to put it to you this way, FL Studio is a fairly simple to use program thus a lot of beginners start making music on FL Studio because it’s easy to torrent and well, it’s simple to use. Plus there is a wealth of online tutorials and knowledge for fruity loops because it is so widely used.

Now, I’ll be honest I’ve heard music made with FL Studio and music made with various other programs and it really all comes down to the quality of the VSTs/Plugins and the Samples you are using, if you use any at all.

I’ve heard amazing stuff come from people who use FL Studio and I’ve heard equally amazing music from people who use Pro Tools.

If you are not using a microphone and don’t care about Pro Tools plugins then really any DAW will do. However, if you are recording vocals or live instruments, drums etc. Pro Tools is great and the plugins available make it that much more attractive to the music professional.

I personally started with FL Studio about 5 years ago, moved on to Logic, then to Reason 4…

Now I use Reason 5 and Pro Tools religiously because what I do requires the use of high quality plugins and vsts/samplers etc. Plus recording a lot of vocals requires a powerful Daw, and I love Pro Tools simply because of the vast library of Plugins available from numerous manufacturers.

Don’t be afraid to change your DAW as you progress, FL Studio is great but it does have limitations (pros and cons) just like all other Daws.

I recommend Reason 5 for productions and Pro Tools for Vocals and/or Live Recording to create samples or actually live record a whole composition. If you eventually get into the Studio world and participate in recording pop/rock/ or hip-hop you will find that Pro Tools is found at every major studio and is used by virtually every major studio for recording live instruments and vocals. That is no opinion, that is a fact, anyone who is telling you otherwise has not worked within a major studio or has anti Pro Tools sentiment because they have yet to learn how to use it for themselves, and they will usually complain that the Pro Tools DAW is too complicated.

I have been using Fl studio since version 3 , ( now version 10 is out, huge change ).

It was a point when I tried Cubase and I also bought Pro Tools. I learned them really quick since I already knew the basics;however, I went back to Fl studio.

Now I use a lot the mic and record live in Fl studio. I believe is no different than Pro Tools when it comes to effects/eq vst… etc. I also think you can achieve the same quality with proper mixing and techniques, but I wanted to see what others say.

Have you ever tried logic ? Ok, get Reason 5 and use it rewire with logic, pro tools or cubase.

You will forget fl studio very fast, possibility are just unlimited

I think FL is worse only by a set of it’s native plugins, but by itself does not loses in compare with another programs such as Cubase, Reason etc. Cubase for example famous for it’s native plugins. FL was professionally tested in pair with Cubase, Ableton, Resason and was not worse by the main parameters such as signal/noise ratio, distortions in final mix etc. Use Presonus Studio One

+1 for Logic Pro! Just curious, what does Reason do that Logic can’t? I have the software but have never bothered to use it. I have to say I used to use FL and I really liked how easy it was to program beats and loops into the midi arrangement window.

Just found this discussion on FL Studio and had to have my two penneth worth I also started using Fl Studio, when it used to be just called Fruityloops. I do also have a copy of FL 10 . But I really do notice the difference between FL studio and Cubase 5 which is what I’m now using. What bugs me about Fl studio is this, if you don’t have 64bit plugins you are limited to 2gb of memory which is useless to me as I have 16gb of ram. This occurs even on a 64 bit system. There is also the circular panning law defaulted option, which can and does make the middles sound really woolly in some instances, especially if you forget to uncheck the option in the project settings, then of course FL does NOT recognise some of my midi keyboard functions, no good if I have to use the MOD wheel. I really, love Cubase it’s intuitive and even on my poultry NS-10’s it sounds really nice especially with symphobia or even my studio drummer library. I have way more control over frequencies and FX sends. However, FL does have it’s benefits, and I will from time to time throw a loop together using it.

Have you all try to play demo songs of FL Studio 10 ? It’s so incredible ! I don’t think that the software A, B or C or whatever has to do with the output but the skill of the user which is matter most !

I cant wait till FL ports to Mac. I would love to get back into using that software. It’s been probably about 10 years since I started using it … I’m sure its way different and way better right now…

Btw, I use MacBook Pro i7 & use the Bootcamp to use FL Studio
