So this passed weekend, I finally went ahead and ordered Avid Pro Tools 10. Just got it installed and have been working on getting my plugins switched over to my new system as well. Everything seems to load pretty quickly thus far. I’m really excited about not having to be hooked up to my digi 002 or elevenrack in order to make edits to tracks.

What’s your experience with Pro Tools 10? Do you like not having to be connected to your sound processor in order to play back and edit your tracks? Have you noticed less audio drop outs as well?

I do have a question if anyone is familiar with Eleven Rack. I purchased Eleven Rack the first day it hit the market and it came with pro tools 8 and the plugins, will those plugins work with Pro Tools 10? I even purchased the expansions but I’m not sure if I need to reinstall the plugins or not because when I open up pro tools 10 for the first time, it asked me to create a eleven rack project from a pre-made template. Just wondering before I create unnecessary work for myself.

My experience with PT10 has been great so far. The latency issues are far better than the previous versions. Oh, and the “clip gain” feature speeds up the workload like crazy!

I haven’t actually used Pro Tools apart from my interface (because I just keep it in my studio). So I couldn’t tell you my experience there but I’m sure it’s amazing to have the flexibility.

I also don’t have an eleven rack (just the plug-ins that came with 10). So I couldn’t answer your question there either (sorry!).

But I think Avid did a fantastic job with the latest version of Pro Tools. It’s the best so far IMO . I’ve used versions 7 to the current one.

I haven’t plugged in my digi 002 or elevenrack yet to fully test it, but I’m just hoping I don’t need to repurchase the elevenrack plugins for pro tools… I spent little over $1,000 when the elevenrack first came out. HAHA , Should have waited a few months beacuse the it’s much cheaper now… oh well.

How does the clip gain feature work? Is this used to fix the little pops / artifacts created when looping sections of a song when the wave forms don’t line up correctly? If so, I can’t wait to figure out to use it!

My guess is you shouldn’t have to go through the hassle of repurchasing any gear/plugins…you would think AVID would have thought about that…unless they want to make some more $$$ :X

But the clip gain feature can be used to fix pops…it can also be used to adjust the gain of your audio file right in your edit window Pre-Fader. For example, if you tracked something with too little gain, you can simply raise the clip gain for more signal (though it will raise your noise floor as well). But it comes in handy for quick fixes and adjustments.

It’s from Avid on clip gain!

I got a free upgrade to Pro Tools 10 when it came out, but couldn’t use it because at the time the more midi tracks you had the slower it got to the point of it being unusable. It was a bug I suppose so I went back to PT 9 because I had over 200+ midi tracks in my template. They might have fixed the bug by now but I don’t know. For the last year I’ve been on Cubase. I might use Pro Tools more when they come out with 64bit and unlimited tracks.

How many tracks do you use xstortionist. Let us know any issues.

Hooked everything up last night, had some problems getting my mac to recognizes my Digi 002 but managed to figure it out. Also, hooked up my elevenrack and no need to install plugins for pro tools, immediately when I created a session project, the plugin dialog box popped up.

Happy camper!

Anyone know of any great new plugins? It’s been a couple of years since my studio has been up and running.

This sounds like a DC offset at the end of a clip, it’s easily fixed using fades – which are also now a lot easier in PT10 with real time fades! If you need help with this drop me a message.

In terms of plugins I recommend getting to grips with the new Channel Strip, I use it on almost everything! Build up some good presets and you’ll save so much time when mixing :) it also has a very small footprint compared to equivalent plugins, so you can load up many instances with very little slow down on your system.

Quick question PT10 users. I am currently stuck on PT8 for the simple reason that Digidesign/Avid has discontinued support for my good old MBox 1 since then.
But in theory, I should be able to use it with PT10 since it no longer restricts you to Digidesign products. You can use any sound card, right?
So my question is: has any of you guys tried to do so? Were you successful?
Just being curious here.
I know, I should update to a newer card, but my earnings on AJ don’t quite allow me to do this yet! :)
