If the goal is to drive people to rate the stuff they bought, why not just have a feature in the dashboard that reminds the buyer to rate the item.. pretty much like the note before in the dashboard that said “snipplr has just been added…”
Great feedback guys.
I like the mailchimp/newsletter idea – this is what I meant really, only where it’s integrated into the author dashboard and the lovely buyers can opt in/out just like they do when they follow you – lets face it, if the follow feature was improved to tell followers of updates/new items.
Right now the follow feature is a glorified ego boost lol.
- Attended a Community Meetup
- Author had a File in an Envato Bundle
- Author was Featured
- Bought between 1 and 9 items
- Contributed a Tutorial to a Tuts+ Site
- Exclusive Author
- Has been a member for 4-5 years
- Item was Featured

Right on! An opt-in newsletter would be great. You could of course do this yourself at anytime. I don’t know that ThemeForest (Envato) would be that interested in building into the marketplace a feature that has no dependency on their data to be functional…
If we did our own, sure it doesnt use Envatos but if they chose to develop it, it could really give a big boost to the relationship between buyer and seller.
I’m talking about something uber simple – its literally going to be a database query that says “send to all users whove purchased this AND have opted in”. Really simple.

I keep saying everyone can do it themselves for ages and nobody cares. Haven’t seen a single author doing it… (no, I’m not doing it because I’m not much of an author for now)
Oh well…
+1 this would be very useful for both the buyer and the author.
