Strangest thing ever. Ambulance service company paid 1250.00 deposit on a site 5 months ago. I had a mock up for them in 2 weeks. They liked it, said they had a few changes and I haven’t heard from them since. Sent several emails and calls telling them to call or we could setup a meeting to finalize the design. Nothing, nada…they’re still in business, it’s like they just said “ah, screw it just keep our deposit”! I feel bad about this but I did do enough work to cover the desposit and the refund period is only 4 weeks plus I’ve done everything humanly possible to finish this for them. This ever happen to anyone? I know I wouldn’t just throw away 1250.00!!!

Yeah, I think it even happened twice to me. And the scenario was the same: they liked the damn job. I’ve had my conclusions about it. The client either died, somehow, or they did not take the service seriously (even though they did pay).

It’s strange indeed, but it happens.

They will probably come back eventually with some apology or story and expect you to the do the work at that time. That crap always happens. Money is never free :-)

never happened I’m not that lucky :),

well you just need to wait then maybe they show up at some point.

Just be careful to keep track of all the steps you did to contact them back, because they may come in 6 months and accuse you of fraud or scam or that you just took they money and “disappear”.

Maybe whoever your contact was disappeared (fired, died, whatever), and nobody else has a clue what was going on. Sounds like you did your part in trying repeatedly to get in touch with them. I’d definitely hold on to those emails you sent though, in case they show up angry down the road.

This has happened to me twice! Once for a custom Tumblr theme project and another on an illustration. They paid upfront for the whole project then just disappeared! One paid for 4 hours extra work and never got back to me with what they wanted. I’ve contacted them several times and no reply to this day! Very confusing!

Yes, it was only a $150 deposit though. I tried contacting them numerous times – they said they would get back to me, and they never did.

P.S: If all of these clients find this thread, I’ll lol.

tonvie, if you can somehow tell that a client will behave like this, save yourself the headaches and send them to this page.

You’ll get the satisfaction to see the result of your work in the wild, and they’ll get what they want :)
