In Germany I easily found people to share musical ideas with and work on lots of projects.

Another way of making some good money and get creative was to get in touch with theater people. It always works. Just went on the site of the local theater company, found an email adress, submitted some of my previous works and within some weeks I was contacted and asked if I can come up with some music for a show.

So…I totally recommend Germany…I wouldn’t recommend the bigger cities though. Maybe for later. Regarding language, of course its always nice when you speak it at least on a small conversational level but in this line of bussiness…english works great. As a teacher I even had more students because people wanted to practice also their language skills :)

And as a last piece of advice…Don’t feel shy on doing research, get in touch with people, write emails, ask questions, send your music, etc.

Hope it helped a little bit at least. Best of luck and do let us know about how things work out

Wow..that’s the kind of story that I want to hear, and to tell one day ;) So Germany..can you also recommend me some particular cities?

Some Slavic countries like Serbia, Poland, Ukraine have large number of very good musicians and very creative atmosphere… but you have to prepare to live in poverty as a musician :)

That’s right. Really good musicians in these countries. And many of them came to germany. I’m sure because it’s much easier to get live jobs and fair money here. I’m used to play in cover-party-bands around Hamburg on weddings, balls etc. Most times between 400,- and 600,- Euro for each musician. But all 4-5 men bands feel some changings since a few years. Entertainer and Duos have a much better sound than 10-20 years ago and a lot of bands also just play their Midi-Files and sound the same. So many bookers think “Hey, they all don’t play live, so why should we pay for five.” This is bad for the hard working “live”-bands.

In Clubs or Street-Partys you don’t earn much money in germany as well. One musician from Central Hamburg just told me that he has to ask now for little jobs in next summer. And this will be between 150,- and 500,- Euro for the band.

All you’ve written it’s true – I’ll go tomorrow for 15 hours live job on bass guitar for 120 euro :). You must really love to play here and have very good musicians in the band. People must see and hear the difference between live band and semi playback duos :) If you’re really good you will play every weekend and in this reality it may bring you life little above average.
