Copycats

Anyone else notice that there are several templates on here that seem to copy Envato’s style? You know….the header/logo BG having a little bit of gradient light applied, etc?

I guess that’s a complement to whoever does Envato’s designs (Collis?).

I would have to agree on that, however I think that its important not to “create” a situation out of nothing if you know what I mean. All templates are screened b4 put up for sale, so even though you are right, perhaps its just best left to the site admins to decide if there is a problem. And your also right, it is a complement to to Collis!

Agreed with you both! There is nothing wrong with finding inspiration in those we admire, such as Collis!

The term copycat in my mind sounds less than “inspired by…”, but I gather that’s not what’s implied here. More of a compliment to Collis’ design skills.

When I’m in need of some inspiration I will often scour resources to pull something together. If that inspiration is pooled from multiple resources including my own I am assured that what I’m doing is original.

So yeah, if Envato’s style is inspiring designers, rather than copying, it’s a well deserved compliment.

If something is good, it will be inspiring to create more good things. If someone is better, he will create something better that will be inspiring enough to create more better things.

For me, creating “inspired by” themes is nothing wrong as long as they don’t look exactly the same as the original one.

it seams that is what sells so people do it. it makes sense in a marketplace, not that I would agree with it.

Hello to ENVATO Network there r many files r copying frm our themeforest site will giveing the livepreview people grap the thing what they r looking for and they use there thing.Plz look around this thing abt copying files.

I guess I worded it wrong….I didn’t mean “Copycats” as in, copying everything….but “inspiring”.

You can feel a lot of Collis’ style in the templates is what I meant.
