Great list Ivor – I’d personally add YSlow or something like http://gtmetrix.com/dashboard.html for theme authors (run it on a new theme install before you add in any extra plugins as those tend to muck up the rankings).

It’s not a “compliance” check by any means and it’s not fullproof (I disagree with some of their common results), but it’ll spot a lot of obvious issues and help push you towards cleaner, more efficient code. Even popular themes on here consistently get C, D and F rankings (heck, even the best sites on the web get poor scores – css-tricks only warrants a “C”), but I’ve found that it’s an awesome tool for finding spots that you can improve on.

I did not know this. Because of the long list of styles and scripts and the hardcoded integrations I came across I thought different, but if you say you are using all these plugins, that’s fantastic! You personally got me +100 points in my book. I think this is one of those things that had to be confirmed for some developers, and it’s a good thing it has been confirmed, no more debating over speculations.

Awesome post Ivor, thanks for chipping in! Maybe a blog post to follow this up would help, so its referenced somewhere for all authors to see?

Would love to expand it to how you test tumblr themes, site template, email templates etc. I understand you may need to keep this private.
