The new Canon 60d is out now. At the moment seams if 96% Viewfinder Coverage (100% in 7D) and 9point AF System (19points in 7d) is not a problem then 60d is a better choice than 7d Because you get lighter camera, tilt-able LCD (which might be especially handy for video shooting) and what’s most important – you get cheaper price. I’m not mentioning here the Continuous Burst Speed which is 5.3fps vs 8fps Since I’m planing to use it mainly for video shooting – that’s not an issue.
What’s your thought? Have you got some good review links that you could share? I’m especially interested in video mode reviews/comparisons. I guess we should wait for few days to see some sample videos uploaded on Vimeo. At the moment there are only few.

A heavier camera is generally considered much better for shooting moving images. The extra weight tends to act as its own stabiliser.

I was reading some reviews, but nobody talk much about the video capabilities of this camera. Is it better than the 550D/T2i and why it’s better if it is. I mean things like video quality, frame rate, lower rolling shutter distortion and stuff like that. I think the 550D is still a great choice for shooting video as well as some great images if needed.

I’ve heard the same, but when you add battery grip, a big lens and external mic the weight adds up therefore it’s better to start off from a lower point otherwise you’ll end up with too heavy camera.

Thanks for that link. I read most of the comments and realized this one has a manual audio as well. So that’s one more reason to get this over 7d.
I’m not going to get it right away so probably once- my time comes, Nikon will offer something even better.

share some facts, please. I’m tempted to get Nikon, because all my friends have nikon and we would be able to exchange lenses then, but I haven’t seen any better offers by Nikon (talking about video side here).

Thanks for the tread Phil, I’m in the same process, (buying a still cam) and since I’m not going to get it right away too, and was looking ( 7D a part ) at the Canon 5D mark 3, for early 2011
.I know there will be a considerable price difference, but I still have few months…

I’ve heard people rumoring that Canon should finally get everything right with the mark III I mean first they released mark II, then (which was it 550d or 7d? i guess 7d) they fixed the frame rate issue. Then with 60d fixed the audio gain problem improoving the rolling shutter and other artifacts along the way. When mark III comes out it should be all that combined + something even better. I think pretty much you can read the forums, read what people are missing in those cameras available at the moment and believe that most of the stuff will be there in mark III
