I don’t mean to be rude. And I’ve thought about how to say this in the nicest way to not offend anyone but come on.
I see the same authors posting there accomplishments every chance they get. Orange Paw, 50 sales, Brown Paw, 100 sales, 200 sales, 300 sales, 400 sales, Black paw, 500 sales, 600 sales.
If Tim did that he would be posting every day.
it would be upto a mod or a staff member and i dought they would.. unless that user is breaking a rule of the forums .. like posting a link to their personal site.. which we all know is a big NO NO
I can understand if its there first 25, or 100 and I understand starting a thread when you get a new paw. But every 100 sales and paws?
Must admit i dont get it either, surely its self promotion….
But seems ” da management” think its ok
Like you said, its a creative way to get around the rules of self promotion.
I can see it for big achievements, but every slight milestone is too much!
- Author had a File in an Envato Bundle
- Author had a Free File of the Month
- Sold between 10 000 and 50 000 dollars
- Author was Featured
- Item was Featured
- Bought between 100 and 499 items
- Exclusive Author
- Has been a member for 2-3 years
- Referred between 1 and 9 users
It’s never really bothered me too much, the threads themselves disappear fairly quickly and as a result are fairly harmless. They’re also generally positive.
Also, to my surprise, only 5 out of the last 60 threads are milestone based.
In general though, I agree, it’s not like these threads contribute to any serious or stimulating discussion – unlike quite a few other threads in the community, and it’s not like Envato need/should have to be thanked for what they do, as they are taking a commission from the sales. Equally, we can thank the buyers by leaving a ‘Readme’ in our ZIP files that they download, and I highly doubt buyers spend much time on the forums.
Additionally I have seen in the past authors bumping their own milestone threads 24-48 hours after they have died. I think some users equate forum postings to marketplace exposure. It’s much like the front-page phenomenon, (many users think the front page is incredibly important for item sales) – most of the views on the front page are from other authors checking out items. I suspect the same is true regarding the forums.
I’m sure Envato could create a milestone section of the forum that automatically generated a message whenever a user reached a significant milestone, but I’m sure that would be on the lowest of the low of priorities!
OK, I’m off to create a post about reaching 10 profile badges…...
They’re should be one mega thread where people can post this imo.
Better still an automated announcement thread.
When a seller hits a milestone, envato auto posts the achievement to a specific thread.
must a a new tab. for self promotion
lol XD
i mean a new off topic tab of achievement
that will not show in all post tab.

Yet add to this list–My first theme is accepted, My first sale, My second sale:)))
I never noticed such type of announcements written by established authors. And from my point of view it is a bad manner–to blare out small achievements on every corner.
