Video games are are addictive and popular. My son put on a graduation party last week that went all night and there were still around 30 kids at our house the next day. What were they doing? Playing Guitar Hero on our Xbox.

Is anyone in the AudioJungle community just as addicted? Or are you too busy making real music?

Personally I don’t think so. It teaches you timing maybe but there’s not technique of feel for a real instrument.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but which game do you all prefer by the way, and why? Rock Band or Guitar Hero?

As a guitarist, I simply can’t play those stupid games. I hate both of em with all my heart! >:c

I always imitated the actual riffs when I tried a song I knew, rather than just pushing a couple of buttons…I just couldn’t get my mind in on that simplicity. So no, as for guitar and bass, guitar hero and rock band teaches you as good as nothing playing the actual instrument. As for drums, well that’s another thing. Drummers playing rock band simply smile in your face when they bang on that plastic drum kit because it’s so easy for them. (at least to a certain point of difficulty)

I can agree that it might help none musicians a bit getting more into the timing of a song but again, that counts more for the drums than for guitar and bass.

Other than that, at least for me, those are just games without any usage for musicial theory or practice.

Q: – Can “Guitar Hero” teach you to play real music?
A: – As much as “Tetris” teach you to build houses.

uh yeah. I think NOT . :) instead of packaging the game with that weak, useless plastic toy guitar, they should package it with a MIDIfied pickup that you attach to a REAL guitar, which sends note data to the game system.. I think that’d cost a little bit more though ;)
