I’d like to get a digital recorder with stereo microphones and decent pre-amps for recording interesting sounds I can edit and use in compositions as custom instruments and kits. However, my budget is tight. The one recorder I’d love to have is the Sony PCM D50…

So far I’ve looked at;

  • Sony PCM M10
  • Tascam DR40
  • ZOOM H4n

Do any of you have experience with these handheld recorders? If so which one sounds best? I’m not too fused about all the bells and whistles that the H4N provides or the XLR connections, I just want a really good sounding digital recorder with a low noise floor, and decent microphones that have a good depth to the sound.
