Hi Guys!!!

I’m having a bit of trouble picking out the best bit of Continuous Backup Software (i.e. software that backs up your files as soon as you hit save). I’m currently using Avanquest Autosave Essentials, but dear god it’s the most unstable piece of software ever!!! It crashes all the time, and it takes my idle CPU Usage from 0-5% up to 100% continuously, its actually crazy!

I previously had memeo Backup Software, but it had a tendency to interrupt programs when they were trying to access files (such as thunderbird when i was trying to receive emails)

I’ve uninstalled avanquest, and am currently trialing out the backup that comes with kaspersky pure, although not continuous, setting it on a daily basis and using dropbox might be enough.

I do have half a mind to go ahead and purchase the latest version of memeo’s backup software though, it was very reliable and didnt miss a file, if it wasnt for the interrupting, it would be an easy choice.

So what are your experiences with continuous backup software, do you have any suggestions?

syncback – you only need the free version. Just setup nightly, weekly, monthly and bi monthly profiles. If you really want a continuous local backup, use a RAID .

Hehe i already have a raid setup :P But it isn’t really continuous backup, because if there is a software error, or file corruption, then RAID does nothing about it, it only protects against harddrive failure and not software errors. ;-)

Maybe i’m just a little too hyped up about backups :-D

+1 for dropbox being so awesome and free! :)

if you are using dropbox then why do you need local continuous backup as well? You could just redownload it assuming you’re always connected…?

RAID is awesome, I have 3 drives in RAID and one failed a month ago and I didn’t lost a thing :) :)

If you do find one please let us know though… I lost about 6 hours of coding a few weeks ago cause flashdevelop crashed and wiped everything that was open :x:( (i’ve since disabled their auto backup which is what caused it)
