Hello all, I am fairly new to ThemeForest and have released my first theme (AutoFocus Photography Theme). It has a fairly complex and unique feature that involves geotagging which is great for travel photographers. I have got really good feedbacks from all but it’s been 24 hours but only 1 sale. I am happy about that, but a little amazed too. Are people hesitant to buy from new authors, or is it because of the weekend or is my theme genuinely lacking something? I am ready to learn and improve. What’s your experience?

Dont worry, it will get more sales eventually. Weekends may be less sales, but we remember we had good sales on sunday also :) unpredictable it is. Your work is cool, nice theme and presentation. Keep up the spirit. We are also from India and welcome to the forest of awesomeness!

Glad that you liked it designova-studio. :) It’s a chance I took to build something niche.. something little less generic.

hi vervethemes, i’m new here and fell the same way as you before. but that how this marketplace work. some good themes get low sale, and some get many sale. your themes is good, but in my opinion its too specified for little market. uniqueness is important, but when you go to this market, you will need to know and understand what people need. i believe you will develop into new star on this marketplace. keep light your fire.

Thanks jegtheme for your input. I think I am slowly figuring out this marketplace. There is respect for uniqueness all over but authors must draw a line so that their product does not narrow down to meet the requirements of only a specific group of people. Uniqueness sometimes isolates. I think, authors should first make a product that has all the features a layman would ask from it and then add their creative spice to make it different. If some basic generic options are missing, your product, however creative, would fail to convert to sales.

Obviously being a reputated author affects sales, and a large portfolio also make a huge difference in term of click-throughs to any new file published. But we have seen also sucessful files, being the first of a newbie author. So don’t feel discouraged about being your first file. What you point out (about generic options) is quite important, but also an unique theme could affect sales as it will be hard to “customize” so it won’t look a template, which is what many users here are looking for. Consider that many of the users here are not direct customers of that template, but they are reselling the web to third clients. Uniquess is a plus, but if it’s really different could be risky. Somehow you must balance the pros-cons while designing/developing.

Another fact is that in case of doubt, many authors starts uploading the html version. If it gets good sales, most probably will do the same, or better, on WP category.

A good theme gets sales even if the author is new or well-known, when I published my SCRN , I barely had 400 sales. However, being an elite-author with lots of followers might help the average themes since they’ll probably sell very good even if they’re not really that great.

Above all, here on Themeforest DESIGN RULZ !!

Everyone is on the way to provide unique items, does not matter author experience. The basic going on is that you come with a new concept, solid coded, lookin bad, you gonna get 10x more sales even than top 5 authors. As simple as that.
