Any programs that produce professional sounding, virtual brass sounds?

Hi everyone, I am a newbie here and have just started uploading tracks to AJ. But my question is, does anyone know of any professional programs that create realistic sounding brass instruments such as different saxophones, trumput, trombone etc…

It would also be great if it could be used as a plugin to logic pro.

I don’t have many brass players around and I don’t play any brass myself so I always write a backing guide so I can here what it sounds like – then get brass players in to record nice and quickly.

Any ideas for programs that do this would be great!

I noticed you included saxophones in your post. So I am wondering if you are looking for orchestral brass or more pop/jazz/R&B kind of brass.

There are a number of orchestral brass packages out there. Sam named CineBrass, which is quite good. In addition, Dimension Brass, part of the VSL, also comes highly recommended.

If you are looking for brass for more popular or jazz styles, Chris Hein Horns for Kontakt is very good. You could probably get started with the Compact version, which is what I use. In addition, Native Instruments has a Kontakt library called Session Horns, which is a four piece horn section more suitable for R&B and Pop.

Good luck in your search!

Michael

If you’re looking for the pop brass and/or big band sound, Session Horns is a good starting point, but there is no real competitor to Broadway Big Band, an expensive but phenomenal library for this kind of stuff.

I am not particularly interested in classical, orchestral brass sounds. More for pop, jazz and reggae! Would these programs work well to create sounds for this style?

Cheers Everyone!

Gareth is correct that Broadway Big band is a stunner…if you have a couple of grand plus to spend.

If you don’t, the full Chris Hein Horns Pro Complete or Chris Hein Horns Compact are a more affordable solution. Pro Complete is $700 and Compact is $200.

Not trying to argue with Gareth here as he is correct from a “what sounds best” perspective. but if you don’t have that kind of money to throw at it, the Chris Hein product will serve you well.
