another site that appears to use ae templates

are sites that are using templates from here license-compliant? . I wanted to know how authors are handling licensing of their templates for these type of customizer-sites. Are they compliant, and legal? Seems like a lot of “we’ll customize and create a low-cost video for you” using your guys templates are popping up online; I think if they’re not compliant they should be stopped; any thoughts?

I was asking about those types of sites in another thread.

I’m a buyer who has spent thousands of $$ on AE templates, for my own business use, on my own personal websites.

It bothers me that my competitors could go to one of these “customizer” sites and not even buy the project or license it properly, and get a cheap video made without properly having paid the author for license of it. My understanding is that this is in violation of the license terms that templates are sold under.

Otherwise nobody would ever buy templates here, except “template customizer” sites, which would sell customized template video output for very low prices, which kills the business for envato and authors here.

From what I understand, a “template customizing” site needs to buy a new license and pass that cost along ($8-$25 or whatever) for each new customer, so the customer pays both the cost of the envato license (which gets paid jointly to envato plus the author, for their percentage) plus whatever the “customizer” site charges for their labor. Is that correct, envato?

If these templates aren’t licensed and paid for properly, PER usage according to the envato license, then your guys’ template business dies, as nobody will buy a $25 template if they can go to fiverr or one of these low-price customizer sites instead. Envato, you guys have to promptly send out DMCAs and stop this or you’ll see dozens of budget-priced “customizer” sites and everyone except them will stop buying templates.

The author will sell a few templates (to customizer-site buyers, only), and no more 10+ 40+ sales of templates. Authors you should be VERY concerned about this. Your business is about to die off unless this customizer-site trend is stopped immediately. There’s still time.

Just wanted to portray the other perspective to this situation. You might call me stupid, or crazy, but these customizer websites can do us some sort of a service

First of all, they cant provide the same level of support the genuine author can but they expose to our work. For instance, lets say a customer wants a template with a pre render modified… Well, that’s Strike one for the customizer website. There are plenty of more examples where it can be clearly proven that a genuine author knows his sh*t, and can provide support better than anyone.

Second, they give our projects a “Luxurious” appeal; Yes, they might sell to some and cut a chunk off our profit which is, horrible for us authors. But, the bottom line is that Videohive will always have a bigger, better, varied collection of projects to offer. Plus, it’s the only place which sells the original project files, which makes it legit and authentic. Serious clients care about these things. The fact they are selling renders of our videos illegally (some of these websites look dodgy too) makes me think highly of the original projects, they wouldn’t copy Rolex or Breitling if it was a cheap low quality watch, would they? Strike two for customizers.

Third, they can be put to our advantage. Imagining a customizer website that is ran by a legit company , featuring an online GUI for customizing and rendering templates makes me feel fuzzy and warm inside. Having the option of customizing every new project online and rendering via web interface could decrease the evolution of these customizer websites .

So there you go, another take on things before you go on killing our precious authorhood.

If is a license infringement envato should take the appropriate actions.

But… did Envato have taken action in the past?... Each time this issue appear, looks like only we producers are taking action. But for removing links, they are doing a great job

there’s bound to be a lot of these sites springing up, which to my understanding are not legitimately buying per-usage licenses for each of their customers, per envato license. Envato guys? what’s the word?
