I tried captcha 20 times to log in Graphicriver but nothing, then I opened my Photodune account and I was in without any captcha. I use Chrome.

Thanks for letting us know TandyDi, I’ll investigate that one.

in chrome too, was logged out, logged back in fine, no captcha or anything.
CAPTCHA has been removed for quite some time now, thankfully.
Nope, still there for me.

We haven’t removed CAPTCHA but we have been actively improving the sign in process recently so that CAPTCHA is required less frequently.

About 2 months ago about 75% of users were seeing CAPTCHA when they logged in, we’re now down to about 25% of users seeing CAPTCHA when they log in and that percentage will continue to drop over the next couple of months.

Thanks infuse01,

I haven’t been able to replicate the problem so it might just be a bit of a hicup after the session changes.

If any one else is running into the same issue. Try clearing the cookies and restarting the browser. If it’s still happening let us know asap!

Mark :)

Hey infuse01,

So you can’t currently log in to any of the marketplaces using chrome?

Sorry about that SBJEWEL .

We just deployed a change to how we were storing session data and it had the (unintended) side effect of logging everyone out.

Has noone spotted the spelling error within the upload section of the codecanyon website.

On the optional live section of the upload script it says:

ZIP file containing an index.html (case sensitive) and any supporing js scripts or images you need

the “SUPPORING” is meant to say “SUPPORTING”.

:)

Just thought i would let you know :)

Good spot!

We’ve fixed that up, please let us know if you find any others.

Mark :)

Hi

What should I do to not wait for 10 mins to write a post? Is there anyway?

thanks.

Hi wopre,

We rate limit the posts of new users as one method of cutting down spam on the forums.

The rule is: you can only post once every 10 minutes if you signed up less than a week ago and have not made any deposits.

Regards,

Mark :)

i have been complaining about captcha for a while now and keep hearing the same (wrong) answers: its to prevent spam (it doesnt), it helps save books! (huh?) its not that hard (it is) etc

the bottom line is that envato does not care. whoever runs the tech is the tail wagging the dog. they have committed to captcha and thats that.

Actually the main reason that we have CAPTCHA enabled is as a prevention method for automated distributed dictionary attacks.

The marketplaces have grown to a big enough size that we are now a valid target for organised large scale intrusion attempts. These come in a variety of forms and we have in place a variety of methods for detection and prevention of these attacks.

One technique that we have seen on the rise has been automated distributed dictionary attacks. This is an attempt to login automatically to a large number of different common usernames using a small number of common passwords from a large number of different devices and IP address.

Eg.

- They come from a large number of IP addresses across multiple IP ranges so alerts on failed signin attempts per IP address do not trigger.

- They use a large number of usernames with only 1 or 2 signin attempts per username so alerts on failed signin attempts per username do not trigger.

- They use a small number of common passwords across all signin attempts.

These types of attacks are tricky to deal with but not impossible and the immediate fix has been to enable the CAPTCHA for all signing attempts. It is worth noting that since this has been done we have had no accounts compromised via this type of attack.

We realise that forcing CAPTCHA on signin is not a long term solution but this is a case of security trumping User Experience. Rest assured we are working on other (non CAPTCHA ) prevention methods, some of these have already been put in place, such as stricter password requirements, others we are working on.

Once we are confident that we are not vulnerable to this particular threat without CAPTCHA in place, we will disable it.

Sorry for the inconvenience, we are working towards getting rid of it, and know that we hate it as much as you do!

Sorry for bringing this up again but.. it is been an hour and still can’t upload. The zip file uploads, then “processing” and .. it is not in the drop down menu list for the “main files” field. Can’t see it, can’t select it.. It shows 3 items uploaded.. when it should be 4.

Hi InlifeThrill,

How big are the files that you are having trouble uploading?

Have you tried uploading the files via FTP ? (instructions here)

HTTP wasn’t really designed for large file transfers, FTP on the other hand was designed with just that in mind. So FTP is generally the better option when uploading large files.

Let us know how you go.

Mark :)
