@quickandeasy: was this screenshot from an Envato email?

No, my bad sorry.

It’s the email Paypal send you (a Seller) when someone files a chargeback with their credit card.

I’m just trying to show how it’s out of Envato’s hands as the money is deducted from their account straight away – so deducting it from the Author’s account is the obvious domino effect. And even sometimes you get charged extra as a Paypal ‘seller’ for the chargeback investigation itself.

So Envato could be being charge more on top of the actual refund.

Really, Envato deserve a big thumbs up for paying Authors sales regardless of refunds for all this time.

If you’ve had something deducted, in no way is Envato ‘to blame’.

The problem is not with PayPal, because there is no chance for refund in the Paypal system if you bought a digital product. Refunds are possible for physical products only.

You can still open a ‘dispute’ via Paypal, which temporarily deducts the money from the seller’s account (i.e Envato’s account) until the dispute is solved. This money is deducted immediately and outside of Envato’s control, although Support do have the means to settle a dispute and reclame the money.

A chargeback is taken out of Paypal’s account and then Paypal take the money out of the seller’s account. Envato / the Seller / Paypal have no real control over the outcome of this and Paypal will not cover you if you sell intangible goods.

I recently had several chargebacks during a promotion. Not only did Paypal take the money (after I showed the users had downloaded the files), but the credit card company charge me a fee to ‘investigate’ the transaction, so it ended up costing me a hundred dollars or so too for the investigations. Paypal deducted the money from my account automatically for the investigation charge.

The transactions all took place and were all ‘charged back’ in the same time periods, so I suspect the person / people behind them knew that it was a dead cert way to get content free.

However, consider yourselves lucky that Envato will cover the investigative costs if need be, rather the Authors.

Whats to stop people buying getting a refund and keeping the file?

Nothing. It’s a pain in the… when you sell through Paypal, as Paypal don’t cover non-tangible transactions.

Thanks for the update.

When Paypal is so vastly used for digital content, they need to offer us digital sellers some seller protection!

Kudos to Envato for paying Authors anyway for all this time. I always wondered why I never heard many complaints about chargebacks etc.

Hmm, maybe I’m just being narrow-minded.

When I purchase a theme or CC file, I always check the comments to see what issues there are and what the Author has replied with.

Of course, I know that’s a good place to find those answers though.

I think this would make commenting redundant, which would then result in the author answering the same questions over and over rather than having public info in comments for buyers to read through.

Also, you have a contact box on your profile page, most of those with advanced questions will know how to find this anyway.

That video style…I saw some other (probably) scam videos like that.

Most the top selling Clickbank products have videos made by the same guy

I’ve been here a few months now. I’ll be staying in Thailand until September and then flying to Nepal.

I’ll be back in BKK soon and hopefully trying to put together a meetup, you should join Narusha!

@Giallo, street fighting!? I’m just chillin out.
