I see we still haven’t gotten any news yet?
Two months later basically with no new information really. I believe it was before the end of October, then they missed that deadline. Came in with vague responses with an “assurance” that new, detailed information would follow. Flash forward a few weeks. One blog post releasing nothing really new. Now, here we are. Basically at the end of the year. There’s only a few days left in November. Basically one month left before the end of the year and still..Envato doesn’t have their heads straight.
The lack of communication here is astounding. Mistrust is becoming the norm from what I’ve seen in the forums as of late and that can’t be healthy for the company.
You’ve had time to organize multiple contests and bundle offers. Updated certain looks to the website, but..you can’t manage to figure out this solution or at least communicate what you’re doing properly? Just doesn’t make very much sense, from a consumer, author or business standpoint. How can you run something based off of customer communication without any communication?
I see this whole situation is still a mess. It’s a shame really.
The little info that has been given (which I do understand this stuff takes time and I appreciated they are working on trying to solve worries, but let’s face it..this is becoming a nightmare for a lot of people), I still have my concerns as well as everyone else. One being the fact that we “authors” are considered the direct seller to clients “buyers”. As stated numerous times, I can’t see the logic in this being fact, simply because we have no evidence to support the claim that we sell directly to buyers. Sure I may not have much to worry about (I don’t make anywhere near as much as Elite authors here), but I’d at least like to understand the situation just in case.
As far as I know, the system is STILL a commission based system. I can’t see why it’s being claimed otherwise.
I really wish I could come to the forums and comment on fun, happy and friendly posts, but as said, this is a serious issue for a ton of people it seems. Hopefully we can get this cleared up before too much longer and I can begin selling items here once again. I still stand on not providing new content until this is all resolved.
The difference between a seller and an an affiliate is the control over the product. Obviously, sellers aren’t exactly affiliates since we create the products, but we’re much closer to an affiliate than we are to a seller on eBay or Amazon, in terms of the control we have over our products.
The fact that items have to be reviewed to even be on here is a huge strike against us being true sellers.
Here’s a compromise for Envato: Do away with exclusive/non-exclusive items and just make everything non-exclusive. And by that, I mean use the exclusive fee structure for non-exclusive items. Then, you can include whatever crazy fees and structure you want, but as long as the author is also allowed to sell elsewhere, that might make it worth it to sell here. Otherwise, like others have said, under the proposed structure, it would not make any sense for any author to even sell here. That said, the lack of response, now 5 days after Collis said we would here something back, is pretty disrespectful and careless. I realize you may not be able to publish anything definitive at the moment, but peek your head in and say SOMETHING to acknowledge that we’re still here and to acknowledge that you said we would hear from you by now, and yet we haven’t. It’s common courtesy that most companies extend to their employees and/or customers, especially when a deadline is missed.
I have been following this thread for the past month, mainly keeping quiet and letting everyone else discuss. Mainly because what I would say has already been said. BUT here’s the deal, there is no way that us authors can be considered the seller here. As stated numerous times already, doing so would have to change the whole system (also given that we never see or know who “we” sell to nor have control over pricing, licensing, ect).
I also have to agree that the fact that nothing has been said in weeks from the staff is very concerning. I have plenty of items here for sale, but I refuse to add anything new to my portfolio until this mess is figured out. Simply put, don’t make promises you can’t keep. Don’t claim to have a solution and information for us by a certain date if you cannot make that date, especially with the situation being as it is, the sooner is better. Waiting until the last possible minute to say something is unprofessional in my opinion.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never really had a problem with selling or buying here, but this issue is a big issue. This isn’t some “we are changing the background color!” type issue. This is a real life “could cause major problems for customers and authors alike” kind of problem. But from what I’ve been reading, Envato is slowly moving the way of other big corporations. With a a model of thinking of money over community. The pure amount of concern from the community and the complete lack of rational and timely explanations speak loads about it. Just think about that for a second Envato. You may not be meaning to tell the community that you don’t care, but it comes off as you don’t.
As said, I love selling here and I’ve loved having the opportunity to be able to do something I love, but until this mess is figured out and we get a concrete response, I will not be uploading any new music.
Fantastic story, thank you for sharing! Best wishes on your travels and cheers to future successes!
I’m in. Now…to just run off and lock myself in the studio for a while
A lot of really cool things there! Well done Envato. Well done indeed I hope I make it up there one day
