Why share experiences? Because it isn’t always about making money. We make a living off of an open source project, it’s only fitting to give back every once in a while.

1) Your client deadlines are not my client deadlines.

2) Update has been submitted for the sub-categories, as stated many times.

3) I told you who doesn’t want auto-truncation and gave you advice and code to fix it. Use it or don’t.

4) Even if the NextGen plugin works, it may be interfering with the rest of the theme. Try deactivating it and setting up the theme just like in the video before modifying it.

5) You’re paying for a well designed, well coded theme. How you’re setting it up and using it is another story. I couldn’t possibly know because you haven’t tried to actually get help with it, other than leaving many vague, negative messages across the Envato network.

6) You can surely ask for a refund. You’ll have to chat with Envato support.

Hey djmceltic, As I said on your comment on Author, I’ve submitted a fix for the category menus. They don’t approve updates immediately, so you’ll have to wait until it’s approved.

I removed the auto truncating of posts on index on purpose. I’ve found that many users end up asking me how to remove that, so I’ve removed it by default. If you want to truncate your posts, you can either use the More tag or slightly modify the code.

You can simply change line 107 from

<?php if(is_search()) { ?> to <?php if(is_search() || is_archive()) { ?>

From what I can tell, you haven’t even signed up for the forum yet to post your possible issues. That’s where support is handled. The comments are for comments!

Your comments also hint that you’re using NextGen gallery plugin, which isn’t part of the theme or required for use with Author. Just like all theme authors, we can’t guarantee all plugins will work with the theme, this one included. The theme has several gallery like features built in, and if you’re using them correctly, you wouldn’t need that gallery plugin. Again, I don’t know if you’re using Author correctly because you haven’t signed up for the forum. NextGen could be breaking the entire theme for all I know.

Thanks, guys! It’s nice to see some of the behind the scenes progress lately. Really helps buyers and authors manage expectations. Obviously it’s no easy task maintaining such a large marketplace, so we all appreciate the work that’s going on over there!

I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on a few things for us though:

When the Elite pricing tool was axed, there was talk of something else in the works that would benefit Elite authors. Is this something in active development? For such a new and beneficial feature, it was removed rather abruptly and without explanation. Naturally, many of us are curious if there is something in the works.

Secondly, recently there was talk of the custom iframes being removed for a better solution. I was curious if this alternative solution would be in place before the iframes were disallowed?

Thanks again, Envato!

My vote is to spend that time on something more valuable to authors. If you’re going to work on stats, maybe try implementing something like Statementer into the author dashboard. That is an amazing script, and there is no reason we shouldn’t have that kind of NATIVE reporting and analytics by now. We need charts, graphs and other elements that help us monitor our sales.

Third-party scripts like Statementer are great, but we shouldn’t rely on them since they could go unsupported overnight. Not to mention, at the end of the day, it’s still a script hack.

Many of us are building businesses here at Envato, please help us make them better with a regular release schedule of features we can all benefit from! Analytics, sales tools, whatever!

The problem is, plenty of great ideas and features always get introduced in the forums and then just never happen. Don’t shoot the messenger, but the community is starting to notice the lack of evolution over here. “It’s in the pipe” has become a meme among Envato marketplace members! I didn’t start it, I swear!

I think there has been a gradual decrease in communication between the Envato team and authors lately. In this case, Elite authors probably should have been notified before the tool was pulled so they could make any last minute changes to their prices. I think all 160 elite authors have earned that opportunity.

The new badge and forum features are a nice gesture, but obviously we’re all interested in the things that can help our products! That’s why we get a little testy when we see a feature taken away with no real reason why. Did it crush sales? Was it unfair to some authors? Did it cause diabetes? Just a little insight might help here.

The price adjustment tool definitely isn’t the long term solution but it IS a solution until Envato implements something else. Now we’re kind of just back to square one until “later this year.” For those of us who have been around a while it’s especially disheartening because we’ve seen how long it actually takes to push features out, if they even make it. We’ve been told a new item discussion section was in the works for years. It’s almost irrelevant now, as many of us have opened our own forums in the mean time!

There used to be so much going on at ThemeForest that there was an entire blog for it! Contests for unique theme designs, giveaways, podcasts and the like. It was SO great! Now everything is always like a year away. Maybe we could get something like that going again? Or more transparency on the Notes blog? Nurse, I think I feel a faint pulse!

Anyway, I don’t want this to turn into an anti-Envato thing here (you know I love you, Collis!), I just think we need some more communication in this fair marketplace of ours. A little insight goes a long way.

Thanks, I guess! Not sure who they are or what they’re trying to do, but it’s nice to see my theme in the wild!

Yeah, flights out there are really expensive for what will probably be one night with the Envato folks. Not sure if I can justify the costs this year unless I built some kind of vacation around it, which isn’t a terrible idea, but not my first choice either. :)

Let’s hope for a few extended license sales this year!

Time to play….guess that food!

Alright, my guess, clockwise from the bottom:

  • BBQ Chicken
  • Cornbread
  • Some type of veggie/pepper?
  • Small thing of potatoes or some kind of wet salad
  • Good ol’ mac n cheese
:D
Drew wins! That’s exactly what’s there. There are actually both veggies and peppers there, so extra points. :D
He forgot the lemon cake, though, which does look like cornbread as well.

I didn’t get any lemon cake that day, myself. I regretted it almost immediately and I wish I had it RIGHT NOW .
