The thing is authors don’t need to post that. You must assume all items don’t contain support unless stated.
CodeCanyon is really designed for programmers purchasing classes and small bits of code. They should be able to fix any issues with the code themselves.
I don’t really agree with this, my programs are targeted at any end user without programming knowledge, but that isn’t really how CodeCanyon is setup.
You are purchasing the code and nothing else, this is why the prices are so cheap.
I have released many many updates to my applications. Maybe the existing approval log/version history should be public for all users to see?
Yep I sell a number of plugins that require an existing product to be already installed.
Yes but again this is a CodeCanyon issue, they set the prices, the reviewer should check for this when an update is added.
I would suggest logging a support ticket and asking them to review the price of the product.
For me personally one of my items started at $18, after some massive updates I asked them to review the price and they increased it to $25.
If there is a specific item of concern just log a support ticket.
This really isn’t the authors fault.
CodeCanyon has some serious issues with the way you can sell your applications. Currently it really only works for once off purchases of small scripts.Issues include:
- No product upgrade pricing (so if someone purchases the lite version they cannot upgrade to the pro version without paying full price)
- No support contract subscriptions (that is you cannot easily charge for support through CodeCanyon)
- No version upgrade pricing (you should be able to charge a yearly fee for upgrades)
- No bundles or discounts, i.e I have 5 plugins, if you purchase all at the same time you get a discount.
- No coupon codes
I’m sure there are lots of other issues. This makes it very difficult for authors to make money on products as they age.
You also don’t want to price yourself out of the market. So if you had a product at $30 and increased it to $100 then you might not make as many sales. This is where upgrade pricing would be great. Purchase the basic product at $30 and then spend a discounted rate to upgrade to the pro version.
Currently you really can only create plugins to get more revenue from existing customers. There is also no great way of dealing with plugins on CodeCanyon, they are each treated like separate items. Meaning more work for the authors and slower updates.
The products on CodeCanyon are so cheap too!
I made a minor change to one of my items before, so it should be possible. Just log a support ticket.
Kayako have a free trial on their website. Anyone can sign up and test it if they wish.
You should check out CodeCanyon, there are a number of great ticketing systems for sale. Almost all are cheaper than even one month of Kayako (and you get the source code etc).
It is all about how good the item is.
For an end user $5 doesn’t matter if item A can do the task while item B cannot.
I recently increased the price of one of my applications. The number of sales did drop, but this was also around the time that a number of other similar (cheaper) items were released.
So I went and added some great features and improved the interface. This application is now selling better than before.
Also if an extra $5 means that you can provide better support then your purchasers will prefer this.
I’ve noticed a lot of authors have many many different products and items. I like to keep a small number so that we can make these the best possible products in their category.
Therefore our most expensive product is our top selling product and is also our featured product.
