Even on my 27” iMac I see only Search and featured items when I opened homepage. What will see users with regulars monitors (1280x) ? Only search! New items section now work like site footer – nobody will use it.

I see this

Our sales dropped around 50% after design was changed. Please return all back until you made good search!

There is a drop on sales here but my sales are quiet a roller coaster, and usually at the end of the month is more or less (20 – 30%) as the month before.

What I want to say is that I don’t have the necessary data to affirm this homepage change is at fault. Maybe is just another roller coaster on down level.

We will see.

What is worrying is seeing an elite author announcing 50% sales drop. I mean, the amount in sale each day and elite account makes can give you a better overview.

Question is: Did the sales drop is account specific (just leveling to other authors) or is at marketplace level?

I’m not sure if we will get an answer to this (with corporate secrets and stuff) hope is the first option because else we have a big problem here.

Too much white space and unused space tbh! just saying my piece :)

you are not a designer if you don’t let unused at least 50% of the space available.

Now, we have 2 clicks instead of one click. Of course, one click would be better.
Good you realize that, so it follows that you agree it was better before the update when we had visible links.

I want something better not the one before.

My sales and many others have slowed down dramatically since this update, because we rely on our new items in categories being discovered, but now those links are hidden in a cumbersome drop down menu that’s barely visible and doesn’t even look like something you can click on.
That new homepage is online for not even 2 days and your last upload of an item was over a month ago. Please tell me how can you make such a statement. You don’t have any items displayed there, so it shouldn’t make a difference. On the contrary, your files are now more likely to be found via search (what is pretty much the only option after a month if it isn’t in popular files).

sales go down for a lot of reasons. but how can I lose sales even if I’m not on front page?

here is a possible explanation.

new user visit themeforest.
“oh look at all the homepage items! this one looks quite good”
he clicks on it.
“the preview looks good, colors are awesome, but what about ecommerce support? looks like is missing.
Hmm, let me search some similar items, hey I can click on tags, great!”
clicks on tag, search display results appear, digitalscience item is one of the items on page.
“this one looks great”
clicks on digitalscience item, check preview, read description,
“shut up and take my money!”
meanwhile digitalscience pops up another beer.
Life is good.

but now:

new user visit themeforest.
2 tired to scroll down.
“no new items today, will be back tomorrow”
maybe

Excellent point Bedros! The marketplace links use to be in a drop down – aka the site switcher. And Envato realized and decided that removing the drop down, and having the links visible across the top of the site would encourage cross marketplace traffic and exposure to individual marketplaces. The exact same logic and traffic flow pattern applies to the category drop down, by hiding the visible links, you are reducing the focus on individual categories. So please don’t tell us that a drop down is a good idea, and this is what the community wants.. we already know that visible links are better for the community as a whole.

I’m afraid there is no real user experience logic behind this new homepage. visually, there’s more space and some areas had been moved around/extended but from the usability point of view I see is no logic.

I can understand the big search area in the middle of the page as maybe a step towards using that space as a banner rotator of some sort. A place to advertise bundles, events, contest and the rest. Not saying is a bad idea or a good idea but only that I can see a logic behind this.

But there is no logic in moving the new item list way out of the view and under less important areas. Except maybe “let’s do this and see how is goes”. I would like to be proven wrong and if someone from the UX staff can explain this change will be great.

Doing stuff to see how it goes is a strategy also, but what is the point in hiring a user experience team then?

I’m sure any dev can scramble around the homepage every few weeks and analyze the data.

Even I can do it. I would take the search out then see if sales drop or not. If not, then I will put the new item list over the top navigation links, see what happens. If sales drop I put the section back. I can even write a function do to this automatically.

Move random X section around, change random font and color -> if number of sales is less then move them back -> if not keep section in place then move another random Y section around, repeat

Now we are stuck with this homepage for a few years (hopefully not till 2020) and unfortunately if next week the new item area is back under the big search box then this means I’m right, is just a philosophy of “let us see how it goes”

At this point yeap :) we have to see how it goes. Maybe it works, why not?
