Santa Clarita will be a little cheaper than Los Angeles since it is a suburb, but more expensive for transportation. Los Angeles is a big city, so you have to consider driving time (there is effectively no public transportation, so you need a car). Here is how it breaks down as far as cost of living in a place like Santa Clarita (30 mi from the city center):

• Housing: $1000-$1500/mo (assuming 1-2 bedroom apt)
• Transportation: $1000/mo ($300 gas, $200 insurance, $500 car payment and repairs)
• Utilities: $300 ($150 electricity, $50 internet, $20 gas, $30 phone, $50 cable TV)
• Food: $500 (Cooking or fast food only)

That is $2800-$3300/mo, which means $4300-$5100/mo before taxes. If you live closer to the city, you can increase the rent by $1000-$2000, but remove the car and use bus/train/bike. In my case, I live in a wealthy area because that’s where the good public schools are (we just bought a house there for our daughter who is 4 months old). We also need 2 cars because we both work. That increases our expenses compared to the calculation above by $2000 for housing, $1000 for transportation, $1000 for food since we don’t have time to cook.

I’m wondering if we will see Squarespace templates some day in Themeforest. I know that Wordpress is the bomb right now but Squarespace offers a clean, minimal & well designed interface and some awesome features that make it a potential platform to create templates for.

Right now I have a full time job that pays $9200 US per month, and my wife makes almost that much. Here in the US, especially in Los Angeles, it doesn’t go that far. Taxes are 45%, and we have a house, a condo, and a vacation house in the Philippines. If I were to work as a freelancer on ThemeForest, for example, I would like to replace my salary and my wife’s, or about $18000 US per month. I would need 1-2 WordPress themes on the popular files list at all times!

I’m wondering if you know how much is the average per month to live in Santa Clarita or something near. I’m saving money to go to CALARTS and I would love know a little more about this. Thanks
