Whats going on with the API for those of us that use outside support sites? Is a new field going to be added for expiration or?

Hi contempoinc,

I put out a release notice a couple of days ago regarding the changes to the API. Check it out.

Awesome thanks! Not sure if this was covered already but for buyers that purchased before the new 6 month included, does their 6 months start on the 1st?

Massive +1, I’ve brought this up so many times.

@KingDog With all due respect, you guys might take note of things but no mention has been made and this massive issue and it isn’t a small one by any means. I understand you can’t comment on everything but this one has been glaring for quite some time and mentioned by myself and others countless times. Something needs to be done.

You guys have to agree, pricing massive do it all theme/frameworks the same as a single or niche theme is ridiculous. Its like Economics 101, c’mon guys. The theme market has changed and therefore the pricing model needs to as well.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse every time I make a post on these forums.

In other words; whatever criticism is being presented here; don’t bother as one way or another, this is going to happen…
You got it… :)

Such a long winded post from Envato that you perfectly summed up in a single sentence. This is beyond disappointing, with every passing day you guys are seemingly trying to alienate your money makers.

Lets not forget we (authors) are the absolute core of your business, and by basically just trudging ahead with these changes and so called better solutions you’re going to piss a lot of people off – and quite possibly lose your top money makers in the process.

There are so many simple and valid points authors are bringing up, yet it seems like you guys brush them off.

…that’s a trade law violation and customers will likely complain to FTC/ACCC (leading to fines/sanctions against envato/authors).

I highly doubt they’re going to waste their time on an item you purchased for under a $60 bucks.

I have no problem with updating my themes for the life cycle of that product whether it be bug fixes or new features. However lifetime unlimited support just isn’t viable and I’m glad Envato is introducing “Support Packs” however we’re still going to be working for pennies on the dollar like a 8 year old in a Nike sweatshop.

All jokes aside, I really think in the case of paid support it should work like this:

  • Envato doesn’t take a cut, Author gets 100%, after all this is labor not a product, e.g. themes, templates, etc…
  • Envato sets standard terms as it is now, 6 months, 12 months.
  • Authors set their own extended support pricing, everyone has different labor rates — and if authors want to charge a $1 or a $100 that’s their prerogative just like your own Envato Studio site. Again we’re talking about labor here NOT a product.

Using this example from the post:

Example – 6-month support extension for a Regular License with an item price of $46.40 (list price of $58):
  • purchased at same time as license = $17.40 (37.5% x $46.40)
  • purchased during the support period = $29 (62.5% x $46.40)
  • purchased after support period has expired = $40.60 (82.5% x $46.40)

That basically means I’m still working for pennies on the dollar…how is this helping again?

Saw the pricing to extend support in the screenshot, however where’s the entire pricing structure for this? How is that determined? Percentage of price? Is pricing different for say an HTML template vs a WordPress theme due to it being much more complicated? Would appreciated some insight and transparency on that? Or am I missing something?
You can find here http://marketblog.envato.com/news/item-support-picking-up-where-we-left-off/

Awesome, thanks for the link!

Sell everything for a buck!

Kidding. However it is interesting Creative Market allows authors to set pricing on whatever they wish, and you can see WP themes over there are actually priced higher. Nobody is practicing “Dumping”, if some themes were priced for example at a dollar and others priced higher I would think it would give buyers a perception of the quality of that product.

Like buying a Timex instead of a Rolex, or a Toyota instead of a Rolls Royce.

To be honest I’m thinking this could possibly be a good thing.

If not, Envato should still RAISE the price of 100 in 1 Multipurpose Themes you’re killing us and your own marketplace.
