I wouldn’t say I’m “pissed off”, but I’m definitely concerned about what’s gone on lately.

I pay taxes on my earnings as well, and have ever since I started making money here. That’s not the issue. The issue is that, at least as far as US authors go, Envato has added an “author fee”, which will greatly change our gross income in addition to forcing us to calculate and deduct these “author fees” in order to arrive at our taxable income. It’s an added step that is completely unnecessary.

On top of that, Envato will be reporting this exaggerated income figure (your earnings plus the author fees) to the IRS, which conflicts with the figure (the more accurate figure of what you actually take home) that PayPal will report to the IRS, which will very likely cause issues for US authors.

Now, Envato said they are working with PayPal in order to resolve that issue, but in the meantime, I’m trying to wrap my mind around why we even have this “platform” model in the first place that would precipitate the use of an “author fee” that would cause all of these issues. It all seems incredibly unnecessary, and we have yet to hear an actual answer as to why it actually is necessary.

It seems like this “portal” model is more of a preference for Envato instead of a necessity. And at that point, when the preference by nearly every author is to go with the commission model, that’s exactly why so many authors are not happy with this decision since Envato’s preference is trumping ours.

Yep I completely agree with you…
1) Basically we will be making the same amount but having to pay more taxes(making less).
2) Now that it is a market platform model it seems UNETHICAL to still have to be exclusive/non-exclusive to envato.

@ Zineb_Chraibi. I think Envato along with a lot of authors would be nervous of Graphic River becoming the Fivvr of creative assets. People putting extremely low pricing because they don’t know how to price their item or are trying to beat out other authors. I’m all about being able to charge more for assets, it’s price gauging I have a concern over.

I agree thats why I’m fine having prices set by the reviewers like it has always been.

Biggest problem I have is now that we are in a platform marketplace system, the whole concept of being exclusive should not exist. I would be really happy to get an answer from Collis on when this will be changing.

I was going to ask the exact same thing.

Lets say, I have a video clip and i want to add alpha channel on it, so it would be saved as *.mov (png squence) with alpha channel. Size of that file would be rather huge and one could have more than one in zip archive, and that would probably exceed upload size limit. So instead, video files could be saved as *.mov (photo jpg) sequence plus another file which would be used for “lumma matte” to artificially created alpha channel on our *mov (photo jpg) sequence. I hope this make any sense? :) Question is, do we add both files to total number of video clips, or just one? This question might be irrelevant, but when customer ask “why did you say 2 clips and there’s just one inside” or vice versa its wont be funny anymore. Personally I was in a bicycle accident with a car back at the end of June and my right arm had been in a cast and unable to use a computer at all. So my reason is a little different why I’ve been absent.

I am almost 100% sure that the only way to have a video with the apple prores codec is to create it on a mac.

Way to simple. Something like this could be made in a fairly short amount of time.
