Pre-render using Quicktime PhotoJPEG or H.264. Since your background is kind of dark with flares, you may get banding. Switch project to 16bpc and maybe add some grain when pre-rendering to reduce it.

Nice work though, but you may want to crank up the motion blur for those transitions because the edge aliasing is a bit rough :)

Ah Serbia I see. Not sure if this is valid, but would it be more cost effective to order the laptop online with more options? Or would it cost even more? Not sure as I’m from the US :)

You’re not going to find some fancy laptop monitors perfect for grading with high resolution and fancy bells and whistles. As Diego mentioned, get an external monitor as most video people aren’t going to be working off a laptop monitor of any sort unless going mobile.

For a 15” laptop, you can easily find a 1080p display, not sure why you’re only finding 1366×768px. If you want screen space, get a MacBook with Retina since you have a lot of display options in terms of space or legibility.

Np man, but may i ask what kind of advanced features? Because i’m pretty sure that in the UI i’ve created an expression controls for every variable that formula uses so you can create some pretty cool and dynamic stuff, 2D and 3D.

Meant to say your script does exactly what I was looking for, but your script has some really advanced features :)

Cool. Which is your script on aescripts?

Best I go review some of my old Calculus stuff ;)

@Mocarg – Hey Mo, I remember passing by your script but never had a chance to take a good look at it! Great stuff man, that does exactly what I’m trying to do with a whole lot more advanced features. Thanks for the tip on distributing nth layers evenly!

@felt_tips – Thanks, I think I have a better understanding on creating this script now. Having created 6 scripts already with 1 on aescripts, this is actually the first time ever I’m using trig to do these types of calculations. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on how to approach the trig stuff :)

@felt_tips – Wow, I learned a lot from the several lines of expressions you provided. Thanks! Your explanation was very thorough and everything worked seamlessly.

May I ask if you could help me with outlining some of the things I need to do to do the calculations via scripting? Like you said, we probably wouldn’t want expressions linked to position if we’re solving via scripting. I was planning on doing a forLoop to go through all the selected layers, do the calculations via scripting, then using that information to set each layer’s position.

Another thing that would be interesting to see: how could I make the layers arrange in such a way that attempts to give me the best results of a circle, despite not having enough layers. For example: If I only had 3 triangles, the best they can do is form a triangle because it’s closest to a circle shape and evenly distributed. Basically, arrange nth layers with even distribution.

Thanks for your help felt_tips!

Hey felt_tips,

I was wondering what was the best way to approach arranging layers in a circular or spiral formation, possibly with expressions? I’m writing a script that parents a layer to a null, rotate null, parent, rotate null, repeat, that kinda gets the job done with simple expressions, but I’m hoping there was a more effective way of doing this with more advanced expressions. Thought I’d ask for your wisdom :)

You can always save the .ai file and include it, no one will complain. But what is it that you’re using the .ai file for? Most of the colors should be changeable in AE for convenience.
