http://soundcloud.com/derekdbess/world-lost-in-violence-final A friend of mine created the background music for the families who were hurt by the Colorado Shootings. I added some guitar to the track and I’m having an issue in pro tools when I bounce the track down, the tuning of the song becomes a half step lower. I thought it could be a sample rate issue, but I have everything set to 48k sample. I’m getting back into recording after a couple of years off… so I’m a bit rusty. Any help / suggestions would be appreciated.
Are you sure that 48kHz is set in bounce-to-disc dialogue, too?
I’m pretty sure it was set to 48khz when I bounced it down last night. I will give it another go when I get home from work tonight, but I’m almost positive I didn’t change the settings. I’m wondering if it has something to do with sound cloud changing to their default 44khz?

Could be. Are you trying to upload 48k or 44k file to sound cloud?

Hi Daniken! If it’s not a secret, what kind of iPhone app are you developing? And what kind of music are you looking for?

For sure! I was in no way criticising you mate, sorry if it came across that way… there are a lot of ways to cook an egg!

Hey Rich, I never thought you were criticising me, and even if you did you have every right to do so if you don’t agree or have your own ways of doing things. Sorry if I sounded like arguing with you in my previous post, that was not my intention, I was trying to help and offered my experience. Anyway, I’m glad we are having this discussion in this manner, cheers!

Ozone, for example, allows you to detect intersample peaks, thus elimintaing problems when mastering to 0dB. I also find the music is less squashed when going to 0.3dB or thereabouts.. I find it depends on the music track itself.

I was talking about converting mastered files to mp3, that’s when you’re in danger of breaking a 0db limit if you master your wav with 0db peak level…also, the amount of squashing depends more on your limiter’s input. For example, you can set a -1db peak level for your master, but if you crank input on your limiter or don’t apply proper gain staging with plug-ins or hardware you use before limiter (eq, comp, etc.), you’re gonna end up with squashed master anyway.

Just to add, in case you’re new to mastering: loudness of a track has more to do with it’s average level ( RMS ) than with peak level, and that’s why you have to decide if you gonna squash dynamics to make your track louder, preserve dynamics but lose some loudness, or aim somewhere in between. Majority of artists, labels and mastering engineers choose the first option and that’s why we have loudness wars mentioned earlier in this thread.
