Conspiracy talk: I think envato should bribe one or two of turbosquid’s top authors of all time and let them share their premium “marketplace perks” like buyer top keyword searches, etc.
Now jokes aside, I believe we (the authors) really should try do some data mining on stock CG assets search queries.
So far what envato has established here, is a stock CG marketplace with very competitive prices. Now I know that we might not be as satisfied with the prices, but I also believe that 3dO’s lower prices should be used as a selling point. Something like, “don’t waste 1k on a stock asset, buy it on 3dO for just 49$”. We have an ace in the sleeve in that regard.
Now when we start seeing a rise in momentum of buyers, we (as authors) should start preaching how to increase the quality of our (and everybody else’s) assets. And this will just boost the reputation of 3dO, and will help maintain customer flow.Cheers guys !
In terms of price, I don’t know if having cheap prices is a good way to position your products in the market, especially in this one. It always depends in the kind of good that you are selling, the costs that it takes to produce it, and how much the buyer will be able to pay, among other factors.
Let’s say that someone sells two things that are exactly the same, but one of them costs 100 and the other one costs 10. Many people would be confused, and would go for the 100 one because we are used to know that more expensive means better quality. The option of going for the lowest price in the market is suitable for products that are so standard that the buyer doesn’t perceive any difference between the products, some examples are rice, or tape. But when you use it for cars, if you are between 2 cars and you buy the cheaper one, you will always remember that you bought the cheaper one…
Anyway it is not a bad strategy to start competing with lower prices but once you get well known in the market you should revalue your prices.
So to sum up, by intuition 3d models aren’t so standard products to use this kind of strategy in my opinion. The buyer is looking for something and consequently he knows very well what he is looking for. They prefer excellent quality instead of quantity. For that reason the “expensive” price option should be more suitable.
But again this is just theory and maybe the prices that we have here in 3docean are the fair ones and the ones that are in other markets are just over expensive. Or maybe we are worried about something that is not the main point for the low quantity of sales problem.
Well first of all I think that we can’t solve anything if we don’t know deeply the problem. So any suggestion we do will be intuitive and it could also be negative for the site.
So IMO the first move would consist in obtaining information, for instance through surveys from buyers specially, about the things that could annoy them at the time of buying an item. It could be due to the fact that prices are too different for the same kind of items so it confuses them, or they are too high or too low, or there is something with the perceived quality, the low quantity of sales, the fact that the item has no comments etc. But it is something that the Envato staff should be investigating, and working out solutions for the findings. If not, here is my first suggestion.
Having said that, the things I suggest (considering what would annoy me on the site) are:
I would expand the market area to a wider one. What I mean is that you might need to attract clients indirectly. I met many marketplaces without wanting to buy something. Maybe 3docean is been too direct. A free tutorials section included in each marketplace (and not separately) should make each one more popular in the net.
I would do the webpage elements more dynamic because it looks too static to me. “You”, as a seller need to motivate the buyer to buy. For example I would add another bar at the bottom or at one of the sides of the page that suggests similar items from other authors considering the keywords that he just used to make the searching experience more immersive. I would also refresh randomly the bar with items that has been featured (letting the latest ones keep their permanent position). With this, authors will be motivated to have a featured file from the 3docean staff because they will know that they have more chances to sell and consequently improve the quality of the overall products.
But as I already said, these last ones are just based on intuition. Anyway, I would also love to see some others contributions to make the site more popular
Thanks for the reply, about the packages, I knew about the BUNDLES , but what I mean is group items by our own like this:http://3docean.net/item/hdri-pack-005/1628820?WT.ac=portfolio_item&WT.seg_1=portfolio_item&WT.z_author=paguthrie
But online, it could give us the possibility to create more dinamic products, easier and quicker, obviously under the approval of the reviewers, as a normal product, and would be useful specially with heavy products.

Hi there, I’m new on this section and I’m not so sure if it is the correct place to post it. I also noticed that this thread is a bit old, but I have some doubts about the same things, such as: -Do I have to reupload the entire item again every time I change the preview image and thumbnail? -Isn’t there any way to preserve the items and don’t reupload them again when I do that kind of changes? Also I would like to suggest a way, to group our items online to make “packs” but online, because my items are quite heavy so I can not group even two of them into just one because it exceed the size limit. Sorry if I’m asking obvious things, but i couldn’t find the answer.
