Oooh! I hate to get excited too early, but this might be what we’ve been waiting for!!
Yikes! I’ve never downloaded a preview – but I would have thought this would be a given.
This is definitely worth looking into.
Even if the end client doesn’t use the track for his project, those previews (most likely) will stay on his computer – possibly waiting to be tried elsewhere. How frustrating it must be to wade through all those files, having no clue what they are! Let’s make it easy for buyers to find our music!
My guess is yes.. Unless you’ve gotten rights to use the music, you’re not legally allowed to use it.
Even though the original artist is deceased, for the most part, music doesn’t become public domain until 70 years (I think) after the artist has passed away. Therefore, someone, somewhere still maintains the rights to this music.
It doesn’t matter what the intention is – or if money is being made, you must have the rights to use it.
To be fair, I’m not 100% certain on all the rules\policies that YouTube has adopted… Anyone else care to chime in?
Hey! Take a look at my ‘Dark Stuff’ collection:http://audiojungle.net/collections/2267439-dark-stuff Namely, http://audiojungle.net/item/a-tormented-soul/2946013
If I don’t have what they’re looking for in my portfolio, I will write it.
If there’s not time to write it, I will refer them to another composer whose work I admire and believe they may be able to provide what the client is looking for.
But first…I promote myself. It always me. It’s not mean. It’s not rude or nasty. This is a business and I will take every opportunity I can to make a new connection with a potential client. I will never steal someone else’s client. If THEY come to me, that’s a different matter – but I believe these is something ethically wrong with stealing someone else’s client.
If a client likes some other music, let them go after it… If they aren’t seeking what I have, I have nothing to offer them.
Though music is a business – it must be run with a sense of personal integrity.

Komplete 8 Ultimate! So much good stuff! (A good deal of not-so-good stuff)... but… but SO MUCH GOOD STUFF!
..to add to my above post… The best advice my Orchestration instructor gave me was to compose as I would for an orchestra… Don’t compose the orchestra as you would for a keyboard.
