Usually adjusting Random Quantize 5-8 ticks from Quantize Setup on Cubase works decently. Mostly quantizing after live recording MIDI -notes. We are pretty lousy keyboard players lol.
I’m pretty much the same, 6-8 ticks, and -10 to +10 on the Logical editor for velocities, even if I’ve recorded myself playing live.
I also use a drum VST , well several in fact. Addictive drums, superior drummer, and Studio drummer. I don’t use the midi sequences that ship with these because they’re not original and sometimes very mechanical. Sometimes it can be something as simple as me sitting reading, tapping my fingers, I’ll immediately jump up and whack into Cubase, then mess around until I feel it has the right groove. Or sometimes I take inspiration from,(and this is going to sound a bit whacky) things in the street, like workmen hitting things or cars driving over manholes, all these things have a certain rhythm, that stick in my head until I get home and get chance to get it into Cubase. Over time I’ve learnt the more I mess around and probe the parts I’m creating, the better they become, so if it takes me two days just to figure out a solid drum part then I’m happy with that.
I recently completed a home study course in audio engineering, which was expensive to say the least but well worth. It was not entirely home study as I had to attend a college once a week for some real desk flying time. You can imagine the faces of the hairy men in the studio when a 55 year old woman turned up on the first day Anyway through trial and error and up until only a few weeks ago I was using T-racks. Now I use mostly Brainworx bx plugs. I especially love the vertigo comp, it’s fantastic. EQuing is a synch with the DynEQ and Digital EQ, while limiting is a snap with the XL plug. I’m comfortable with these, and have more fun messing around with the settings on the plugs than writing the music sometimes. I always generally start with a comp and EQ on the drums, and if the kick is a bit weedy I’ll use the bx_Boom plugin to krank up the kick a little. From there it’s just a case of Comping as necessary and EQuing out all those nasty resonant frequencies that make your ears bleed. When the mix stage is over, I’ll bounce to a stereo master and go over it with a fine tooth comb trying to refine it as much as possible, making it loud and wide. However, I’m still working on my listening skills, and sometimes I still get defeated by an awkward mix with muddy frequencies, but this is happening less and less, I’m happy to say.
Nexus 2.2, Alchemy, FM8 , Massive, and Dune.
A custom built PC (I don’t like Macs, don’t know why just can’t get on with them) My PC has an AMD 6 core 3.5Ghz CPU (water cooled), 16GB DDR3 Ram, and a 750GB HD, with a 250GB SSD for my Kontakt 5 libraries. My fella built it for me, and purchased all the parts. Although the crafty swine slung in an Nvidia GTx 550Ti so he could play Crysis and COD . Men! They never change LOL .
When starting a new track, what are you thinking about? Making it as commercially viable as possible, or writing something that comes from the heart, even if it may not be considered main stream?
MagnetStudios: Your “Who am I?” image has a height of 100px, which has some transparent content unnecessarily occupying some vertical real state from the top. You should crop those empty 35px from the top. You don’t to have to put a TABLE within a PRE element or anything. You use PRE elements for pre-formatted text (i.e. you want to display some text without any fancy fonts, etc.) Unless you do want a preformatted TABLE , that is.
Thanks, I couldn’t figure it out. I could’ve swore blind that both images were 65 pixels high. Must wear my glasses more! I figured out the table thingy, after much head scratching and swearing at the computer.
I google+ this yesterday! Wow I had no idea it was soundroll’s music. Nice spot Tim.
All the eights! Congrats Tim, it’s little wonder your an elite author. What’s more amazing is the fact you’ve done it with just 50! items. Your music speaks for itself, quality, quality, quality.
I need help!!! I want to remove the whacking great gap from the bottom of the underlined quote to the top of my .png’s I use for my portfolio links and “about me”. The .png are only 65px high yet no matter what I do the underlying code always bangs in a socking great gap….. How do I get rid of this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, do I have to use the “pre” tag or “code” Tag if I want to add a table to my profile page, or neither just the
