I have the exact REVERSE problem. I can see my newly approved track in my portfolio, but it’s not in new items, or in the corporate/motivational category. Even a search of its exact title returns no results. Yet there it is in my portfolio listed as a new corporate/motivational track. I’ve logged a ticket to support about it. This is the first time this has ever happened (that I’ve noticed) in over 150+ tracks submitted to AJ. Weird.
AlumoAudio saidBut I’m not sure that matters. AJ’s prices are still the cheapest out there even with the 20% increase, right?
ToivoMedia saidExactly. So in my own case, when my YouTube kids come here to buy my music with their pocket money for their videos and see an extra bunch of dollars on top of the license price at the checkout, they’ll just abandon the purchase.
Marbury-Media saidIf you’re a buyer, you’re located in the EU, and you don’t have a VAT number (i.e. you’re not a registered business) you have to pay VAT on your purchases. So that’s an extra 20% on the price if you’re in the UK. I guess most buyers are individuals and not businesses, so it’s possible this could affect sales.
AlumoAudio saidCan someone please explain what the EU VAT has to do with sales at AJ ?
For those who are wondering why sales are down just look at how many pages of sfx are coming in on a daily basis from single authors and do the maths. Today = Dead.
Oh it’s been dead here for days and days now. Getting the very occasional sale plop in, but nothing to write home about. I was wondering when it was ‘game over’, and can’t help feeling it’s now unfortunately. Could throw some more music on the heap, but from what I’ve seen, it has very little affect.
Aside from the influx of submissions, I’m pretty certain the EU VAT thing has had a huge impact too, as sales pretty much fizzled with a 60% drop in earnings, when that rolled out at the beginning of March.Time to look for other ventures!
Thank you guys! This helped me a lot. Just need some clarification.
Without calling any names, i saw one author here is ASCAP member (ASCAP as far as i know is royalty collection society). Is it against our rules? Or it works per tracks, i.e. tracks, that selling here, should not be registered on any royalty collection associations, and for tracks, not selling on royalty free sites, allowed to be registered in ASCAP? Could someone explain, please, what is allowed and what is not in this case?
For moderts – please, fix my typo. I mean “selling”
