To be honest, search is still mediocre.

Would like to see the results of those tests. How large was the test group etc.

Once i see popular list sales reducing a bit or at least mixing heavily up than i’ll say well something is moving :P

Heh, well the quality over quantity everybody has been talking about brings a smile to my face.

It all comes to what quality is… what do you mean, clean code, great design, pack of goodies, plugins, tons of demos? If you mean all of that then well majority of people here do not know what they are talking about ( no offence to everyone)

There are top selling items here on tf that design is just not up to the standards and even were hard rejected at the beginning but they use different approaches.

Yes i agree well crafted item has more chance, but packing the pupu out of it with plugins and features and demos does not make it high quality.

Majority of clients want additional value and it all depends on which market you target.

And extremely well crafted item with all of those goodies takes time and hell of a lot of resources and still it can burn out.

To be honest luck has a huge part in it also, then seo, then competition etc. There is no recipe. Keep on working, be creative follow the marketplace and trends and put the hours in. And with a bit of luck you can hit or dare i say will hit some items that will give you wings. But the story doesn’t end there.

Just an example, one of our themes went on the top weekly on tf among 3 themes in that niche and it went great! Then competition started rolling, in a month or so 15+ new items came in that niche and well we slept and they overran us.

Once envato becomes your full life it is not a game any more, you start seeing it trough numbers and stats and it can kill your creativity.

So do not let it… leave that why’s, how’s, could’as should’as and just do.

Cheers

+1 a better usage of that space.

In any case things are basically getting worst and worst, if you do not get on the popular list in most cases your items dies or bring very poor income.

For example last year every new item that came pushed exposure to the old ones even if it did not sale as good. Now days new item don’t bring anything. Sales are just dropping, over saturation is starting to show. So the only way to survive is either to flood new items and pray to whomever you pray to hit one of them to most popular list or invest whole lot of time and money building a humangus multi demo tons of plugins theme and risk with it.

But this is a normal thing in any market the fittest survive. Every market is a victim to its buyers… when you reach top depends of the market size….

An example in a niche that’s quite wanted and there is one product it will go like crazy and if the market for that niche is big 3 of them will go but sooner or later it will fill up and it will start to decline…. not so much recurring sales.

On the other hand huge multi-purpose themes are there to stay but have there limit also and we are mostly there so every now and then a newcomer comes and kicks someone off and replaces it and that’s it.

So exposure can go as far as it can in a certain point it cannot work any more. And do keep in mind there are competitive markets on the rise out there that also take envatos peace of cake.

Golden age has past now its suffering time :P No more “just be creative” now its marketing, marketing and marketing. :) And nastier you get better it will be lol
