Nobody has any info, or nobody cares about this?
I doubt you want to have a person who complaints about $2 transaction fee as your customer, such people most of the time are really hard to work with and satisfy, and will probably give you a 1 star rating out of nothing.
It is very debatable. On one hand, I totally agree with you, as $2 compared to few dozens of dollars for template is minor difference. However, you have to look at two other aspects of it:
(1) people also bought a lot of sound effects with direct purchase, meaning they pay $1 for SFX and $2 for handling fee, which makes it 3 times higher price than listed! and
(2) since it was an additional fee, buyers may feel like they’ve been cheated/tricked with 2 dollar lower prices which were listed in big bold font, and you must admit – nobody likes to be cheated, especially in business which should be fair.
Although I was receiving a huge percentage of my earnings thanks to the share of handling fee, I will be totally happy to see it completely gone (I hope Envato keeps their promises and fast!), which will hopefully bring more happy buyers.
Hey, I was wondering: what happened with that half-baked update to VideoHive upload form from a few months ago. Is it still in development?
I still have access to it, but is there going to be any more work on it or is it abandoned?
It’s basically flipping things around a bit, so authors will now be advancing to achieve a smaller number of what they are paying to Envato rather than advancing to achieve a higher percentage of what they are keeping off the item price. So in effect, the smaller the number the better. That means you have to pay out less and get to keep more.
I just have to mention that this completely works against Envato’s “gamification” of the marketplaces. I believe it is more in human nature to reach towards higher values than towards lower ones.
Have you ever seen RPG game in which you start off with hundredth level and advance DOWN to the first level? Or a platform game in which you start from the last level and going downwards…?
With all due respect, I have to strongly disagree with your justification of “the smaller the number the better” because psychologically – and that’s what you tried to achieve, better psychological perspective – it is worse. ... Not to mention the great confusion and the added need for us authors to use calculator to recalculate our real earnings percentage whenever we want to know where we stand.
Doru… rude… anybody else noticed a similarity?
This is something that affects you as author here at Envato. At least read the first post on the link you got in reply above.
Replying with just “i don’t have time” is rude in so many ways, especially to the person who tried to help you by pointing to the source of the information you need and asked for.
Please share your experience and thoughts on this.
I prefer independent villas with big lawn area with plants. What about you?
Independent villas/houses are much better, imho, because you usually have more space, more freedom, less worries about a-little-bit-louder music VS neighbors-complaining, etc… But on the other hand, houses usually need more investment (both time and money) for servicing/maintenance.
Ah, yes, I’ve noticed something similar this morning – and now I have a complete mess in my FTP folder. But, I am not sure that I got back auto-deleted files; I just got back a bunch of recently uploaded/submitted/approved items
Regarding new fees breakdown:
I understand the need to be more transparent, but please don’t lose the simplicity. Less is more!
Therefore I join other authors who already commented that we need to see our percentage of the whole item’s price, like we had until today. I don’t want to open my calculator app every time I want to check where I stand, and this new percentage is totally meaningless/useless for me right now. Please bring back the percentage of a whole; at least add it to the Earnings page, among other numbers that are currently there.
Regarding handling fees:
Although I will lose a great proportion of my earnings thanks to this, I do agree with your plans regarding handling fees. I hope this plan will really have a positive impact on sales in long term.
However, I have to point out something: the most benefit (in percentage) of splitting handling fees with authors was definitely experienced by authors who sell the least priced items – sfx producers at AudioJungle, texture producers at GraphicRiver, etc… So, your comment about trying to balance this authors’ loss by increasing overall prices doesn’t stand here, because – for example – SFX prices on AudioJungle never received any love from Envato (in the past 5 years, since I’ve been an author here). And I think they do deserve some thinking through (if you wish, I can go in depth about this on some other place, I don’t want to clutter this topic).
Anybody else experiencing problems with ftp upload?
Last night I queued ftp upload for the overnight uploading and this morning I got “greeted” with a total mess in my ftp folder, which is now full with files for already-approved recent items in my portfolio.
Moreover, I am not sure whether I am safe to remove them from my ftp folder or not.
