A work day in a nutshell
- 5:00 AM – waking up and quietly leaving the house, going for a 1-hour surf..
- 6:15 AM – breakfast with the family, playtime with my son
- 7:00 AM – jumping in the car, dropping wife at work and baby at daycare
- 8:00 AM – starting to work
- 2:00 PM – realising it’s already 2, and i completely forgot to have lunch
- 4:00 PM – picking wife and kid up, going to the beach / dog park and hanging out
- 6:30 PM – baby bath time, good night story
- 7:00 PM – baby asleep, back to work / learn skills until 10:30PM
- 10:30 PM – going to bed very tired, saying “i’m not surfing tomorrow, i need sleep.”
- 02:00 AM – baby screaming, needs nappy change, bottle. “I am definitely not surfing tomorrow”.
The next day
- 5:000 AM – waking up and quietly leaving the house, going for a 1-hour surf..
To answer the main question, i guess i am working from 8 to 4 and from 7 to 10, so 11 hours of work per day, 4 times a week.
5th day is full-day with my son, going to the pool, gymnastic center.. The best day of the week if i resist the urge to check my work e-mails.. If i do, i freak out!
Weekends are a blend of family fun, skills training and, yes, more work.
Visit the live previews of other items in the same category that you are thinking to post your item. You want to be at a level where your file is better than what you see, if you want to make good sales.
Be ready to be rejected. It happens to everyone. And it’s not pretty or friendly..
You can submit a demo of your item in the Item Discussion thread – that personally helped me a lot to keep my head up after being rejected multiple times on my first template.
Make sure your HTML validates and that you don’t break any rules of envato (use of assets you don’t own the proper licence for, use of brands in your design, etc..
What ever you do, don’t give up even if the first steps are rough!
@KodeFlow, Jordan posted the link in the very first post of this thread.
I would add that you should step down a bit with the bounce-in animations – scrolling down the page gave me a headache.
I also noticed it takes very long to load – both the demo selector and the actual demos.
No problem, glad i could help!
I know how overwhelming things can be at the start…
Another good avenue to learn skills, if you prefer a more hands on approach than just watching videos – is http://www.codecademy.com/tracks/web
I still recommend to watch the 30days to learn HTML and CSS by Jeffrey Way. It will give you a solid ground to continue to progress on.
You will be able to create fancy websites with WordPress themes without much web skills, if you choose the right theme. If you have no HTML / CSS skills, a template form HTML department will not be very useful to you, as you will be looking at the files going like “what now?”.
Regarding learning web skills: https://courses.tutsplus.com/courses/30-days-to-learn-html-css is a great way to start from scratch. Jeffrey Way is a great teacher.
Lynda.com is a good option, so are Treehouse or of course Tuts+Premium.
You can take my example: i studied sports sciences and was a sports teacher for the last 8 years.
3 years ago, i knew pretty much nothing about creating websites. I am now an active author on ThemeForest and am working full time from home as a web designer / developer.
My advice, don’t go to uni or other school. The major problem is they have to issue their semester program in advance to take subscriptions. By the time the term starts, the latest web trends have already changed a lot!
Do online tutorials, buy some templates from the HTML category here in TF, and try to understand how things connect together – how the main html page is calling the CSS stylesheets, the JS files..
Learn a CSS framework like Bootstrap or Foundation, they will help you immensely. Try building your own projects or microsites, even if they look crap.. that’s how you will learn!
Most importantly, never give up. You will no doubt face times where you struggle and doubt yourself. Take it as a challenge to get better and learn another skill, and get back on track!
Good luck – happy to help if you need any other tips!
Envato wants to promote Unbounce templates – so they leave that travel template on #1 spot for a record-breaking stretch of time
My last template got out of the front page very quickly and got lost in an ocean of other templates. Sales literally stopped. Gone. Enjoy the exposure while you can!
Very nice family, cute baby .!
andYou have a awesome dog he looks happy in this pic, what is the dog breed ?
That’s a Corgi – they’ve got super short legs so nobody takes their running seriously, but they are working machines and can run all day (cattle dogs). Awesome breed if you don’t mind the hyperactivity and the occasional barking frenzy!
They look and are happy, all day every day. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=corgi+running&espv=210&es_sm=119&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=Izr_UsewA8eHkwXsvIGACQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1436&bih=735
Let’s not forget my other true love – my little family!
After work fish & chips at Freshwater Beach in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.. Doesn’t get much better than that!
