So many new and old faces here on this thread, it’s great to see It’s been a long journey with a few of you. Thanks so much again for all your kind words and encouragement everyone!
Thanks again everyone you guys are awesome and I wish everyone many happy sales!
I just realized that we have now sold over 25,000 products on Envato and couldn’t be happier!
I wanted to take a brief moment to say thank you to all my amazing buyers and Envato for the opportunity to serve you all!
Here’s to the next 25,000
Jonathan & Barb
No they will not close your account. If you do not make a theme for sale, or purchase etc it does not matter – you have a free lifetime account.
1 regular license = 1 domain only.
in your example:
1 regular license on 3 domains.
They should of purchased 3 regular licenses – 1 for each domain.
for next time when we need to change badges.
calculate team hours to create badges. calculate cost based on said hours required for badge creation.
take those money and create a contest. users creates badges set. chose set based on community + staff vote.
everybody happy (except those that voted for a different set than the one that won )maartin saidlooks like management need to keep an eye on the team then. who knows what they want to change one morning. Imagine Collis one day come up to his office and finds all the walls full of huge badges drawings.
doru saidThat’s exactly how an idea for current badges was born tho.
not to excuse anybody but probably envato have schedules to follow. is not that you show up to work at the office and say: “is time to work on badges people, because people don’t like them!” you need to follow the schedule the boss decided
I was under the impression they used the services of someone on Envato Studio, not a staff member – I swear I read about this somewhere.
EDIT: I looked at the blog post announcing them but I guess I was wrong, I swear I read it somewhere and it even had a link to their services on ES?
We already filled it, but we think that the survey it’s really biased towards the mandatory support. None of the questions ask if the author is in favor or against this new system. It seems that you already have it all decided. One of the biased questions is having us respond how much period of support we offer or “what proportion of buyers abuse support” and having the higher choice “more than 10%” (which is a pretty low choice between 7 SEVEN options). There’s a difference between offering support to your buyers as a good will service and offering mandatory support. We will loose that added value and the buyers will think that we owe our time to them. Don’t get me wrong, we are really happy to help our customers, but in OUR TERMS. We also have to add that we filled the survey but not with much hopes. We recently filled the New Badges survey and the response to the results from Envato was “We don’t care about the results, we’re still going with what we think is right, design in subjective” (hard rejected authors, you could use that! ) and filling the survey brought zero changes. Very disappointing.
I just completed the survey and almost stopped about halfway through because of the same reasons as mentioned above. Although I understand you are data gathering, I’m pretty sure that’s about it, not actually asking us for thoughts – that’s a shame as your ‘community’ is really trying to do that, you’ve missed an opportunity I feel.
Your authors have already stated, with some passion I might add, what they don’t agree with, this info collected didn’t ask any of the important questions raised in the threads I feel.
Anyways, survey has been completed with honest and factual answers as requested to help you plan your new rules and regulations.
This whole thing was explained badly and made things more confusing. I think we can all agree to that and it’s something both Collis and Envato need to work better at.
However, can someone explain how, if as an author I am earning the same, then how come I just sold an email template and earned $11.90 today that 2 days ago I earned $13.30 (same item – same selling price) – to me that appears as if I lost around 11% in my earnings on that sale.
11% less earnings seems like I gave more to someone somewhere?
Again, maybe I got something wrong here and don’t understand it still (it seems like an alteration of income vs expenses for tax purposes to benefit Envato) but I have seen repeatably Collis say it will make really no difference to your earnings.Jonathan
Hi Jonathan, evidently yes I should have done a better job of explaining. Things like fees are tough, and unfortunately one of the effects of this change is the introduction of complexity – when normally we actively work to decrease it.In terms of the earnings, I’m not sure I followed your example – but assume there was a Handling Fee involved? In which case, as I mentioned previously the overall effect should be pretty much negated by increase in conversion, recent price increase, and for non-exclusives the fees change.
I’m sorry I guess I need to explain better also
I sold an item today and my earning is less than when I sold it 2 days ago.
I therefore see a decrease I my earnings.
I hope this explains things a little easier.
