Yep, absolutely the same here. My newer songs don’t appear to get the sort of immediate interest they used to, on either of my accounts where I stay active. This started happening a few months back (I could probably pinpoint it down a little better if I looked at sales of various recent songs). However, a good percentage of them are starting to get hits over time it appears.
Like Antonio I’ve also slowed down my uploads to AJ, and also many of my recent tunes are more introspective than happy. I find that the introspective ones can do well over time but rarely get a lot of sales all at once. So maybe it’s me more than any AJ changes, or maybe a combination of both. Honestly, since last October or so things haven’t felt as predictable as they used to, but there’s been a lot of – largely positive – change going on around here, so that kind of makes sense.
My main guitar is a Tacoma DM-28, and my main ukulele is generally either a Kala ASAC-C concert or a cheap Lanikai tenor.
I have a Kremona classical, but I don’t use it much these days. The thing needs some work to get back up to recording par.
I’ve recently moved to a better studio space, so the next big purchase is a new steel string, followed by a new classical. So if anybody has any ideas The one that has really struck my fancy from a sound and feel perspective is the Martin 000-28 Clapton signature model – unfortunately I can’t stand Clapton…

Without meaning to open a can of worms has ‘self pricing’ ever been discussed here? Other RF sites that use this model still have 1000’s of authors prepared to sell there work for peanuts (perfect for the t.v producer with only 18 bucks in his wallet) while more established authors request more..I realize this is far from ideal but at least authors would feel like they have some control over there work. Just curious
It has been discussed here and there on the forums, and I believe that it was actually going to be implemented once upon a time as part of the original Elite program roll out, to allow self pricing for authors who had met the Elite threshold. But for whatever reason Envato decided not to do it and we got the little text under our forum avatars as a consolation prize. Keep in mind I may be imagining this and starting a nasty unfounded rumor.
Glad you all are paying attention – I had sort of skimmed through the different tiers and didn’t notice the broadcast option in the standard license. I don’t mind that the prices for the higher tiers are low (Envato has a history of adjusting upwards, albeit slowly), or even that this announcement wasn’t paired with PRO allowance, because I believe that will be coming in the future.
I’ve always been okay with the lower prices on AJ, partly because I’m honestly still a hobbyist, but also because I was fine with making my music available to people who aren’t going to be able to afford $50+ just to get a song behind their kid’s graduation video. So a more granular licensing system seemed to make sense in order to separate these buyers from professionals who are charging their clients much more than $18 for the music budget, but the way it’s proposed it doesn’t seem to quite accomplish that.
Anyway, I’m not really adding anything to the conversation, but just wanted to thank Tim and others for reading closely, and pushing back in a respectful way. I still think the 4-tiered licensing – if done right – is a positive move, and one of the first to really show that Envato is recognizing that the way you distribute music isn’t the same as the way you sell Wordpress themes.
That’s great news! I’m glad to see that Envato continues to be serious about bringing the marketplace forward and addressing long-standing author concerns.
Interesting idea, and the result wasn’t bad when I did a test (no clipping), but it wasn’t really to my tastes either. I’m definitely not a mastering genius, far from it, but I know what I like – for instance, I prefer things pretty dry in my tunes and didn’t care for the added reverb of the resulting master.
Honestly I think if you’re looking to churn out quick masters it would be better to set up your own chain once to your liking and use that on everything, rather than to use an automated service.
Maybe it could be useful for draft recordings that you’re sending out to a client for testing before you do the final master. But again I don’t think it would beat having your own stock effects chain.

I like them – they were a bit shockingly big at first but I’m getting used to them already. Envato has always delivered on the community aspect of the digital marketplaces light years ahead of everyone else. It’s nice that Envato Marketplace is taking it a step further.
