OK, seriously now, let us set the basic and first rules of defining trolling. I’ll take the first step :

Yep, I did, and it’s awesome to use really, and I could only but recommend it to anyone looking to do some topology work, be it for basic saving of an interesting model with crap topology, or for actual proper low-poly work.

Btw, did you know they are from Romania? :) Was amazed and delighted to find that out a few years back :D

From what I noticed in past experiences, it is often better to wait for others to notice the quality of the work you produce, and bring it in the spotlight, than doing that yourself and leaving the impression of aggressiveness and self-deification. That being said, the model is nice indeed, and you could even consider it a huge motivation booster to see it priced at “high-poly” levels.

Regarding weekly features and the criteria on which the choices are met, you could also contact the reviewer that approved your file and ask him personally about it, or contact support regarding this matter, and I’m sure someone will be quick to reply on the exact procedure, as they would on any bundle offers, free file of the month, and so on and so forth.

Being over-sensitive never brings anything, nor is setting recognition expectancy too high on ones own work.

As a future suggestion, there’s a “Comment to reviewer” box right at the bottom of the submissions page, and that can be also used exactly for the purpose of letting the reviewer know what you want (it can be a specific price-range, it can be a question, a request for a model to be taken into consideration for weekly features and so on) The reviewers, albeit very competent, are neither super-human nor do they possess clairvoyance as a secret ability, dialogue is the key, and dialogue is best made between two individuals, as in YOU and the reviewer.

All the best, Cb.

Hi guys!

Seeing as this has become a quite popular thematic I think it would only be useful to bring up some pointers that might have been missed out on, and at the same time I’d like to insist on keeping this discussion as civil as possible, as we are after all a community.

Exclusivity is a right, and it comes with both advantages but also responsibilities, to which you guys agreed to, upon enlisting in the “Exclusive Author” group.

That being said, maybe it is simple a matter of misunderstanding the terms and conditions to which you agreed to adhere perhaps, in which case I will try to explain:

As a “non-exclusive Author” you are allowed to sell the SAME models you are selling on 3DOcean on any other site you’d like, including your own, for ANY price, as far as I know. Yes, you only get a lower percentage of what you sell here compared to “exclusive Authors” but that is a fair compromise if you think about the freedom and potential clientbase you can take advantage of on your own.

As an “exclusive Author” you accept that any models you sell on 3DOcean are only commercialized through 3DOcean only. You are free to upload OTHER models to your own store, other marketplaces or wherever you wish, but the ones that you upload, as an “exclusive Author”, for which you get a 50% starting comission compared to 33%, you can only sell here. After all, that’s what Exclusivity stands for. You only find it here. And Envato pays you for that right in a better way than a non-exclusive author might be. How would it be fair to receive the same payment as somebody who sells his models ONLY here?

For a more logical example, say you are a reporter, you know that you have a killer story, and decide to sell. Any newspaper will offer you a bigger amount for the exclusivity of the article, which means they are the first ones to publish it by a specific margin (it can be limited time, it can be unlimited, depending on payment). Then there’s the “sell to all” method where you get the retainer sum value which is what the newspapers pay for simple boring articles, but hey! you can sell it to 100 newspapers.

So basically nobody wants you to leave, but nobody disrespects your freedoms either. :) You might however want to consider respecting author terms and conditions, which in this case might involve either changing from exclusive to – non-exclusive and continue to sell your same models wherever else you please, or if you wish to maintain your exclusivity, you’d have to indeed stop selling the “same” models on other websites, including your own.

Hope this helps, if however you have further questions regarding exclusivity or other complaints regarding the terms and policies, please contact support as I am sure they will be able to help you out further.

Cheers! :)

I had bad luck with hp all the way, ranging from your story, ranging up to defects appearing after more than 30days, so the take-policy doesn’t apply anymore. But you don’t even want me to open up the sad sad pandora’s box of “tech support” / Warranty.

Sent in with visual artifacts displaying due to overheating, or faulty video card, got it back with defect HDD , same video card, same issue, and that after 3 weeks of waiting, with about 400E paid for repairs. And this was in Germany. Funny, as coming from a rather East-European background, I wouldn’t have thought that sort of professional treatment is what you would be getting from a big brand in Germany, I mean pretty much the main pillar of “Capitalism and seriousness” of Europe.

:D

Yeah… and then there’s the “cheap crap” also known as Acer for example, that has served me impeccably for the past 3 years and still going, both as work laptop, AND gaming laptop… And even funnier is that the “cheap plastics” now look just slightly used, where as the old HP DV9000 (sort of top of the line back then) had all the strangest scratches and bulges appearing out of the blue in less than a year, and that while transporting it with the utmost care.

Also another logical and somewhat plausible reasoning behind this drop in sales might be the fact that a tutorial you buy once… if it’s a good tutorial, you don’t buy the second one, as you are desperate to learn on your own, after seeing how easy it is (as in you start not wanting to spend on a second one, even if it would make your life easier, because the first purchase seemed too basic).

If the tut is bad… well, then you don’t buy a second anyway… and in general, don’t want to call buyers cheap, but people tend to get burnt once (not even necessarily by poor quality, but rather by their too high expectancy level), they usually get burnt with a small sum, as small as can be, probably a 3-7 $ file… I can guarantee their next possible purchase only occurs months later after realizing that the said tutorial wasn’t all that bad.

Also, there’s a third possible factor that contributes to this drop : given the accessible price of the tuts, you can have quite a few one-time buyers, that just want to try it out… maybe it’s even their first ever electronic payment for something non-physical… and they just decide 7$ is enough to risk, and maybe don’t feel comfortable after reading / learning from it, and drop to the first factor.

Hence my friend, tutorials, as quickandeasy said… I just got a bit more in-depth on the reasoning for that statement, beyond the obvious PRO vs n00b vs cheapskate :D
