i decided I will not upgrade.

i own komplete 8 and when i saw the komplete 9 ultimate upgrade for 330€ i was very tempted. than i thought that it was really a high amount of money for me and decided not to buy it.

then i saw sampletank 3 update and i began to think about it. i’m in italy and it would cost me about 100€, tax included. i discovered that also sweetwater sell it at 99$ so i though i could buy it in dollars and spare some money… but this is not possible because IK multimedia wants buyer to buy in their own country, so i’m have to buy it from their site and spend 99€... very annoying!

i began to think… do i really need it!? which samples would i use? for sure i would not use drums (i have NI studio drummer which is very good, and beside this also steven slate drum). i would not use guitars, since i’m a guitar player. for basses i can use either a real bass or some kontakt samples. i don’t like the piano demos, and i have several sampled pianos in komplete 8. beside this i love garritan personal orchestra one. i would maybe use e-drums but, again, i have tons of e-drums samples. regarding synths i have plenty of softsynths in K8 and using sampled synths is not so appealing to me. maybe for pads…

loop and ethnic instruments collections seems indeed interesting but nothing i could not live without.

miroslav would be the only “real” reason to upgrade but i already have miroslav full (from IK total bundle) – not so easy to work with with sampletank 2 but indeed usable.

i also discovered that it will not be possible to edit my own keyswithced patches combining old miroslav programs: that killed my will to get ST3 just for miroslav, even if i know that a lot of pathces were converted (but not the full orchestra). moreover i still think that miroslav has no good solutions for legato emulation

moreover i already have garritan personal and instant orchestra, kontakt 5 orchestral samples and kirk hunter solo strings. do i really need to spend 100 € to get some new orchestral samples? maybe no…

in conclusion i really don’t need to spend 100€ to get 33 GB of samples i will never use, regardless of the new miroslav programs. i would have bought just the ST3 engine for maybe 30-40€. that would be nice and a no brainer, so i could use all the Xpansion tanks more easy (even if the sounds are not top notch IMHO)

maybe in the future they will offer it (really, it seems stupid not to sell the engine alone!!), or there will be a free sample player, who knows. or i can also live without it… or maybe a complete upgrade for just miroslav…

for now i will maybe continue to use miroslav in ST2 to support the rest of my orchestral samples…

... I will however wait for komplete 10! :)

I just stack with the authors that except high quality music, they provide also a kind of promotion for my file, usually placing a link to the items page. ... It looks like at the end that the popular authors are not accidently popular…...they do good music, and they return the exposure….

well, the main problem is, again, how an audiojungle author can come in touch with a VH author… i have the famous “Videohivers feel free to use my music” and for the few VH projects that chose my music i always placed a banner and i did a lot of cross promotion on my networks but if the general feeling of 99% of VH authors is to chose the same music, then it will be just impossible for the rest of us to gain exposure. :)

There is also the opposite case, in which we promote our music with VH projects that have not chosen our music, and of course we also are promoting these VH projects on youtube, vimeo, audiojungle, etc. Generally VH authors do not even mention that buyers can see the video with other music to listen to several options (which I think is good for buyers).

i did also this: i have a dedicate youtube channel in which i used VH projects with my music instead of the original one. I always contacted the authors before and I must say that I always got enthusiast replies when i proposed this project. but honestly don’t know if it worked or not.

If someone is explicitly asking or commenting about “new” music for videohive projects why we should stay away?! It’s where the gold is so…. :-D

what a nice post! I totally agree :)
as an audiojungle author i can just invite you to have a look at my profile, in which you will find for example some nice “happy/motivational” tunes played live with original instruments and with a “fresh”, “new” sound :)

some more math and considerations, then… from the top author page for each marketplace, you can get the total number of authors with at least one sale:
TF 3405
CC 3351
VH 3597
AJ 7971
GR 10103
PD 4492
3DO 1169
AD 2230

total= 36.318

out of 4.008.114 members (right now), it is less than 1%. it means that 1 member every 110 had at least one sale. the other 3.971.796 either are buyers or never had any sale or are just people registered with no activity. it would be nice to know who many authors are here without a single sale to have a complete overview.
moreover, based on the amount of sales of “top authors” of the month in each category, i can suppose that each month envato sells hundreds of thousands of items. in a year envato should have millions of sales. that means that the 4.008.114 members are also very active in buying stuff on this marketplace…

as i side note, i must say that in audiojungle chart i’m about in position 500 out of about 8000 authors. that’s not actually bad! :) and i can stil sell my music to a lot of people! :)

any one know how much users are selling audio, even oens which had zero sales and are still not included in the “top author list” which shows 7971 nicknames?

why instead of naming the file “preview” an automatic file name such as: author_songname.mp3 (maybe also upload date: author_songname_uploaddate.mp3 ) is not created? the upload date should prevent doubling the same filename from the same author, if this is really possible. is it so complicated?

in any case, i always try to add tag to my mp3, to point on my profile page.

I recently listened to a “tarantella” on youtube, a traditional music from south Italy. I got the idea to play something in this style, so I found a score by someone called L. Criscuolo e tried it with mandolin and guitar. here it is! :)

hope you enjoy it! :)
