This is going to be one of “those” threads.
If you’re basing the success of your item on the fact that it’s on the front page for 1-2-3-4 or how many days you won’t get very far.
This is the 92nd time that we’re discussing the same thing and I’ll, once more, repeat what I’ve already said but nobody wants to believe – having you item featured is nice, nothing more, nothing less. The effect it has on the sales is minimal. So instead of trying to make an item that’s going to get featured, make items that please customers.
There should be a general support article for this situation given how common it is.
No amount of articles (even if naked people were narrating them) will help fix the only real issue here – customers do not read! They (thankfully a small number) are impatient, rash, often rude and want everything to work without putting absolutely any effort into it. So unfortunately, I really don’t think articles are the way to go.
As far as I’m concerned – never put any of our items on the front page. If the item sucks no amount of front page time we’ll save it.
The real issue here is lack of respect towards authors, especially ones that’ve been here for quite some time and proven that they want to work hard and not “fly under the radar”. This is most prominent with reviewers and their automated copy/paste responses and Envato “management” who act like threads like this don’t exist.
I’m not saying items should be reviewed in 5 minutes, neither that any author (elite or not) should have items approved by default. But situation that we have at the moment is really the worst opposite of that.

Oh, that. It still doesn’t do much for referral stats. It’s better than nothing but it’s light years away from real referral stats with ROI, conversions, etc. As an Elite we have access to Google Analytics for all our product directly from Envato but still leaves room for improvement.

I don’t want to spoil your party but customers are still going to ask how to update … they just don’t read anything Hopefully they’ll ask you a lot less.
