A theme doesn’t need to have a sidebar, but I’m almost certain it needs widget functionality at least somewhere.
I’d urge you to consider a sidebar option as well, you don’t have to demo it, but buyers will definitely ask “Where’s the sidebar?!”
Great luck with your theme!
@An-Themes No offence taken
Whilst I agree the timing of this thread may be a little obvious, nonetheless this is a problem that needs addressing. If I’m honest the reason I opened this thread today is simple:
The frontpage is 100% different this morning than when I went to bed last night
Are there strong designs on there? Hell yes! Are there also very questionable weak designs? Indeed.
Now whilst I would have definitely liked Tucson to sell better than it has, I know it will continue to sell at a level that I’m happy with because I’ve been fortunate enough to grow well as an author here.
My concern, as noted in my original post, is that newer authors (with great designs) are going to find it really hard to break in at the current rate & quality standards of approval.
Finishing off, I opened this thread because when I joined here, TF was the high bastion of design quality by comparison to other marketplaces. I merely want it to stay this way, let us be the marketplace that really drives things forward & shows off quality, and not just quantity (despite my own portfolio!)
@Alex & @Charlie, thanks guys as always
EDIT: @anps, you’re totally correct, since we can’t call items out I’m trying to keep this thread as non-pointed as possible. I guess I’m referring more to the huge flood of items in recent months, many of which are taking away from the TF experience as a whole, rather than adding to it.
Seriously, the time has come (again) for quality requirements to increase across all categories.
There’s too many designs at the moment that are either all the same, or honestly just plain rubbish.
We’re already at saturation point when it comes to items accepted daily, let’s not turn TF into a rubbish heap that no-one wants to search through for a bit of gold.
EDIT: Don’t read this and think that I think my portfolio shines above the rest, I know it doesn’t, I just want this place to keep going forever
It’s not, you have to also include separate written documentation, even though your suggestion makes perfect sense
It’s totally possible to purchase the same item multiple times from the same account, I know, I do it regularly
Come on authors, just a few more surveys needed to break 100
Also, note that a “dormant update log” does not mean an abandoned theme. Quite a few of my themes haven’t been updated in 5 months (at the latest) – this does not mean they are abandoned, but rather that they’re working perfectly, completely stable and fully functioned to the point that no realistic updates are needed.
Consider an items dormancy more on it’s authors comment responses, if an author is still responding to comments and helping out users, then in some cases an item without an update in a while could be an even better decision, in terms of stability.
