This is my favorite support request subject. Whenever I see it, I drop what I’m doing immediately and work on the customer’s project exclusively for the next 48 hours.

Always great when stuff like this is updated :) A few observations:

We may remove an item from our Marketplaces at our discretion, for any reason and at any time
without notice to you.

Please send us an email ! :P

We may use the whole or part of your items to promote the Marketplaces.
No compensation is payable for these uses.

If the author doesn’t receive any monetary compensation, would be nice if they were credited somewhere in the promotional material.

In my experience, customers are forgiving if you don’t respond to their questions on the weekends. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever received a single complaint about it.

Answering questions within one business day is completely reasonable. Maybe you can get 24/7 support somewhere, but that’s going to be from a fairly large company. Most of us are just one-man shops, and I’d challenge any customer to switch places with us for a week and then come back and tell us your experience with support :P

After reading this thread, it’s easy to understand both points of view. As a compromise, instead of the item just disappearing from the universe, the “Purchase” button could just be disabled from the item instead. That way previous buyers can still contact the author for support, no new buyers will be able to purchase until the bug(s) are fixed, and most importantly, no negative SEO impact. Then the author could write a message at the top of the item’s page saying, “We’ve temporarily taken the item down for sale until important updates are made. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you’d like to be notified when the updates are ready and the item is available for sale again, click here.”
I have posted the exact same thing 3 pages ago…

My bad, the credit is yours :)

At the current Extended License prices, it’s pretty crazy to send all your theme customers to the plugin author for support. Especially when the sale probably only earned the plugin author around $80.

My suggestion would be to contact the author and offer to pay them additional money such as $500 for every 1,000 sales. That’s still only .015% of earnings for a $45 theme (at 70% commission), and an offer that the plugin author would probably be happy to accept.

From what i know, Vimeo videos can be embedded without any consent of the author. But to take cuts from the video and host them you should contact the author.

Yes I confirmed this once with Vimeo support, and if I remember correctly it was also followed up and verified by Jordan.

I’d be cautious of using the “Fair Use” loophole for commercial products. Like Ruben said, probably best to get permission.

Just want to offer my 2c. There have been times where things just got added out of the blue, and there was a large outcry from the community asking why they never asked us our opinion. But now we have a situation where it’s the complete opposite. So although I understand the frustration of something not happening faster, involving the community for something like this is a good thing. Sure the process might take longer, but the final result will be better. And for something as important as search, getting it right is what matters most.

Couldn’t find this thread before so opened a new one a few days ago to share some feedback. My previous post is below, but now I realize my “suggestions” weren’t just based on my current purchase, but on my recent buying habits instead.

But I still think showing items directly related to the current purchase would lead to more sales. For example, maybe my previous project was WordPress-based, but if my current project is a static HTML site, I’m much more likely to buy based on my current needs as opposed to past purchases for a previous project.

This is a great idea, but the “suggestions” need some work. The item I purchased was a non-WordPress JavaScript item from CodeCanyon, but my suggestions were all for WordPress products (both themes and plugins). So HTML templates and other non-WordPress scripts would have better matched my purchase.

But overall it looks fantastic and hopefully will lead to additional sales. And if you really wanted to take it to the next level, run some special promotions on this page such a 10% discount on any item purchased within the next 24 hours.. basically anything that’s going to keep the customer shopping :)
