It’s true template monster has some eye catching websites, but have you ever tried to edit one? It’s a freaking nightmare! Everything is frames and nothing is XML or externally loaded in. I’ve told people straight up that with the time/cost it takes to customize one, they might as well just hire me to do the whole thing from scratch.

As far as I know the best you can do with an attribute is insert a hard break:

stick a trace in the class you edited to test (in the class constructor)

trace("hi mom!");

Then test the swf to see if you get the trace. If not, your classes may be in the wrong folder.

Biggest issue is that when the template opens up, most of the content is set off of the stage so i have to edit it in an environment where it looks out of place. If I move it, the rest of the template goes whacky…

The objects are probably being positioned with actionscript. Just edit the objects without moving them maybe?

Thanks Guys

Maybe I also need to say that I don’t really like my job anymore and might quit anyway. It is more of a software and programming job but I want to be more of a designing person and In need of more flexibility. So i really want to know what to do if i quit …

If you go solo, become a full-time freelancer. Then start working on FlashDen files in your down-time. This way you’ll have multiple sources of income. After all, I think there’s only a few here that can/do make a living from FD alone.

Sounds like an file path problem. See if the xml file and images are in their correct directories. If you’re still having trouble you could always write absolute paths (http:www.yoursite.com/yourxml.xml) although this would only work online.

Hello,

I assume it’s very curious, but I was wondering which is the hoghest sale rate on FD, or some examples.

Just to locate myself.

I’ve seen $40 for a single file and $50 for a bundle of files If you’re talking about commission it’s 70%.

Error #1065: Variable root is not defined.

Not quite sure about this particular error. It’s possible that root is not defined because the display object hasn’t been added to the stage yet. Try adding an “ADDED_TO_STAGE” event listener, and then write all your stage stuff (including root) inside the event’s function.

Here’s an example:
